Synopsis
Blue is the physicalization of being “in-process with.” It is moving through the emotional qualities that the color blue represents which are the collective search for and grappling with freedom, self expression, trustworthiness, joy, wisdom, trust, responsibility, honesty, loyalty, inner security
draw attention, inspiration, suggested precision, communicating consciousness, stimulate productivity. The dance was taken layer by layer; first the structured improv or script of movement generated by the color blue and the concept of processing, then the film edits to stay true to the original choreographic improv structure, and lastly the original music scored to the art of the edit. Blue deals with individual and collective identity as well as the fine line between sameness and difference. When the dancers were given a “task script” or structured improv with movement directions and qualities, they were also allowed to move according to their own version of what was being asked. In that way, they were similar and yet different, emulating how life paths can be parallel but never identical. The sand cannot hide when it is being walked upon and is slowly messy-ed and mixed as the piece progresses much like how our life stories and histories are written and rewritten.
