Synopsis

After a violent and troubled childhood of isolation and imaginary friends at the hands of her abusive mother, Lara has relocated to NYC in order to start again, but her social phobias and troubles with alcohol soon resurface and get in the way of her career and her personal life, till one day hope comes along in the form of love.

She initially resists and pushes away and tries to destroy what they could have, self-sabotaging as she always has, seemingly afraid of letting anyone in. But, he stays the course and brings her out into the light.

Her lonely childhood of alienation and the dream-like sequences and non-linear structure, lead us to question his existence and her sanity as he slowly awakens her to a joy for life till then completely absent.

As she falls in love with him and begins her fight against addiction she falls in love with the city of New York too and finally finds herself able to engage with life, till he’s taken away from her in a tragic accident just as their love-story is in its full ascendency.

But, this time she overcomes the grief by holding him close to her heart and living how he had shown her was possible before pushing onwards to a return to Europe to raise a daughter that he didn’t know she was carrying…fulfilling his wishes of a family and a return home.
