Synopsis
Mimetic Desires is a poetic meditation on the violent beauty of life. Through the eyes of two young siblings and their mother, we explore situations charged with ambiguity. The borders between reality and fiction are challenged as the young mother presents for them a new possible stepfather and a TV set. Modern life thereby collapses with ancient sacrifice traditions. Quotes by the French philosopher René Girard frame the film, but academic exercises may provide only a contemporary reassurance in line with religion?
