Synopsis
Rusalka, a short film written by Lona Fontaine, a Welsh-born director, and produced by Sarah Boohig, from West Cork, Ireland, is dedicated to telling the story of women who find themselves trapped in toxic and abusive relationships. This film serves as a poignant reflection of the experiences faced by numerous women, highlighting the immense difficulty many encounter when trying to break free from such detrimental situations. Often isolated from help and estranged from their families, these women struggle to escape the clutches of their tormentors. In this narrative, Rusalka, a water spirit, emerges during Lina’s time of desperation. While the true nature of Rusalka’s existence remains ambiguous, her character becomes an empowering force that emboldens Lina to find the strength to leave her oppressor.
