Synopsis

The Lost Mountaineers is a documentary dedicated to a DUKW, an American amphibious vessel that sank in Lake Garda on 30 April 1945. On a freezing spring night and a few hours after the end of hostilities, the vessel, which the American soldiers on all fronts had renamed Duck, the duck, sinks into the lake due to mechanical failure. Soldiers, who belonged to the Tenth Mountain Division, were declared missing. Almost sixty years after that night a group of history enthusiasts set out in search of the amphibian and its crew. The documentary recounts the military epic of the Italian campaign of the Tenth Mountain Division, which faces its last bloody battle in Trentino. And it tells the story of the search for the sunken vessel and its men.
