The song of the mad god

Synopsis

During the Middle Ages, Gabriel, a lord devastated by war and loss, returns to his ruined estate; his knights are scattered, his castle lies in rubble, and his beloved wife has been murdered. Desperate to escape the torments of his past, Gabriel turns to a witch’s medicine, said to erase the burden of memory. He burns the potion in his hearth and inhales it, but instead of finding peace he plunges deep into terrifying, blood-red visions.

Gabriel awakens in a silent, black-and-white Hell, confronted by the dreadful Shadow Knight, a harvester of souls. The Shadow Knight attacks relentlessly, eventually overpowering Gabriel and revealing a face beneath its smiling helmet: Francesco, Gabriel’s old friend and castellan. Gabriel had discovered Francesco’s affair with his wife and, in a fit of rage, drowned him in the ocean.

Fueled by the fury of this recollection, Gabriel rises once more and defeats the Shadow Knight, driving his sword through its helmet. He is transported to a realm of peace, where his wife awaits. However, the bliss is shattered when she reveals her true feelings—that she loved Francesco. Consumed by a jealous rage, Gabriel kills her, and damns her soul to Hell for eternity.
