Want A Sticker?

Synopsis

Benjamin G. or Ben, a student artist and drug dealer, is about to end his work day but is interrupted by a random woman on his front lawn, offering a sticker of all things. Puzzled, he accepts, but before he has time to consider what just happened, his exuberant yet demanding boss calls and interrupts his plans of rest and tasks Ben with delivering some potent poison frogs by midnight. Throughout the day, Ben finds the sticker phenomenon to more than just a rare occurence, as strangers try to hand him stickers while he speaks on the phone, friends try to offer stickers after short conversations on his poetry, and he even witnesses stickers being put on unconscious bodies. Terrified at this point, Ben is easily swayed by Christian, a fellow Filipinx student, to come into an alleyway and out of sight of whatever else might be lurking on the streets. Christian explains the true horror of the stickers: the person with the most gets executed at the end of the day. Even worse, the only way to transfer these is to ask someone “Want a Sticker?” and they accept willingly, or you say “I’m sorry.” after putting one on them without their knowing or consent. Before Ben can inquire who the Executioner is, they are surprised in the alley by them as soon as the clock strikes twelve. The Executioner allows final exchanges to occur, and Ben ends up giving Christian a sticker. However, feeling some form of guilt or regret, Ben tackles the Executioner just as Christian is being led away. This terrifying conflict ends in only Ben exiting the alley, albeit not unscathed. Knowing the true nature of the stickers, and of the people who have offered these stickers today, Ben begins to give away some of his own. Even if this means putting it on someone’s unconscious body, or deceiving a friend of the same cultural identity. His own people. Now armed with the knowledge that survival is at stake, no one is innocent.
