Synopsis
When the Snow Falls is a neo-noir experimental drama short film. The narrative centres around, the protagonist, Walter’s drug addiction, which leads to his ultimate isolation
and demise. Filmed in black and white and using minimal dialogue, this film aims to blend a modern story with traditional elements that give way to contemporary experimentation.
Walter’s unusual disposition and vacant staring, paired with various cinematic choices, create an uncomfortable portrayal of drug cravings and the psychological strain that they can take
on an individual. This behaviour leads to Walter’s wife, Elsie, observing his addiction and leaving him. In the aftermath of her absence, Walter gives in to the addiction, which sends
him on an ever-continuous downward spiral of his own creation. Walter is forced to ask Elsie for help where she finds evidence of his binges and affairs. After being kicked out of his
home, he finds himself alone and homeless. The negative depiction of drug addiction is paired with abstract and – at times – surreal looks into Walter’s perspective.
