Synopsis
Pause is a generative AI short film made entirely without cameras, actors, or a production crew.

Seven intimate scenarios. Seven domestic moments that could escalate into violence. Seven people who pause instead, and name what they feel rather than act on it.

This is not a film about domestic violence. It is a film for the people living inside these situations — the person whose words or actions trigger a moment, and the person on the receiving end of it. Both audiences watch the same scene. Both see something different. Both are given language they may never have had before.
Each scenario shows one trigger, one escalation, and one reframe. Not a resolution. Not a happy ending. Just the moment where someone names the true emotion instead of the reactive one, and the room changes.

This film is for two people. The person who struggles to manage anger in difficult moments and hasn't found the language to describe their emotions. The person who walks on eggshells but hasn't yet named what they're experiencing.

The film asks nothing of its viewer except a few minutes of private attention. It costs nothing to watch. No admission that anything is wrong is needed to press play. This film is designed for the moment before patterns are established. It is not intended for people in situations of established violence or coercive control.

Made entirely with generative AI — visuals, dialogue, sound design, and music — by Dr Samantha Pillay OAM for AIFilm4Good, the world's first AI-native film studio for social impact.

Pause was reviewed prior to release by practitioners with clinical experience and lived experience in the family violence sector.
