Why does Old Granny seem less lovable as she ages? 82-year-old Granny lives with her fifth son in a Guangzhou apartment, but spends most of the time by herself. Two of her children are dead, another two have their own families, and a further two divide their time between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. The only connection among members of this family seems to be the annual grave sweeping ceremony.

Every day, Goki Bokken, a psychic, visits and investigates families suffering from psychic phenomena, and works to unravel the mystery and solve various situations.

Nine days earlier they buried his wife, grandma: at that time too these 3 men walked like this next to each other, behind her coffin. They pass a long wall in an old oak wood until they reach the open field again. The spectator can tune in to their conversation. The old man has a lot of memories; the young men look ahead. It is obvious that their patterns of life are different but they complement each other, their lives are interwoven. Their connection and friendship are conveyed by the humour and lightness of their conversation. They each have their own pace; they don’t walk synchronously; none of them sets the rhythm, the dynamics occur naturally through their kinship. That ancient chemistry holds these three men together as allies, surrounded by an invisible magnetic field, as they journey through the forest.

Video performance, 2003. At nightfall, the fire smoulders, the artist stirs it up. It begins to sputter and spark, waking up petrified life. The sounds of the day quiet down, songbirds, the ice-cream cart, peacocks, a barking dog… Only the woman keeps on humming after the silence of the night has fallen.

A group of children hold hands in a circle. The child in the middle plays the lamb, the one outside is the wolf. The wolf tries to catch the lamb by breaking through the human fence, but the kids crouch quickly down, blocking him with lowered arms. If the wolf does breach the circle, the lamb can duck out of it, while the kids now try to keep the wolf imprisoned inside. At times the cheeky lamb provokes the wolf, rushing out of safety almost into his path and darting back in. The lamb may be caught, ending that round of the game, inside or outside the fold; but these kids prefer close shaves, the dramatic prolongation of suspense.
