Derived from found super-8 footage of night-time cityscapes shot in London and Berlin in the early 1970s, this once-silent amateur film of lights and neon signs has been reorganized through editing, superimposition and colour inversion, with Helliwell's soundtrack combining electronics, computer sounds and short wave radio signals.

She deftly places the bread on a peel and sets it in the stone oven. Grandpa takes care of the wood-burning , watches over it, blows life into it, again and again. He moves the bread around on the hot hearth. They work noiselessly. Close to each other.

Not typical twists of plot lines and brightness of the images supplement the film.

As the documentary unfolds, it becomes painfully clear that being a parent or a child is a lifelong calling that requires patience, compassion, and strength.

Betty Hollingsworth aka "Squeege" was a children's performer. She became a mentor for me by showing many ways of creativity unknown to me. Her star lives on. This was my first 16mm film project. I was assisted by Lori Felker. Partial funding provided by a Pittsburgh Filmmakers First Works Grant.

AITAI (2002 Version)

The title is a combination of "I want to meet you" and "靉靆 (the flow of clouds, or a lens)". A kind of fake work using old film shot 10 years after its expiration date. However the "film you don't know who belongs to" that is inserted in the middle is real. ​A living story that could only be realized through film. Due to the death of Kamioka, who shot most of the film, the decision was made to leave the footage alone and completely replace the monologue.

The Enchanted Treehouse

While skipping through the woods Sarah comes upon Marcel and Florette working on a miniature fairy tale house. When Marcel and Florette leave the house, its tiny inhabitants come to life and speak to Sarah. She meets Stephan and Reuben and hears the story of The Enchanted Treehouse. Sarah is guided through all the rooms by each little person. When the people agree to let Sarah return they realize they may have compromised the secrecy Marcel and Florette have kept for the last one hundred years.
