Rare documentary about Video Nasties and film, video and internet censorship in the UK. Was first screened as part of Channel 4's controversial "Banned Weekend" which focused on films and the so called Video Nasties, which were a small group of mainly horror films that were given the Video Nasty tag by the tabloid media, due to their explicit horror content. They were subsequently banned under the 1984 Video Recordings Act.

The Punks of Pol Pot County

A documentary of the legendary band of the eighties called CPg (Come on Punk group). CPg was one of the first Hungarian punk (not skinhead) groups. In the eyes of the political leadership, they were the most reactionary and the rudest. Their songs sounded like a naive, somewhat anarchistic social criticism but were never racists. They were sentenced to two years in prison.

Gunnm 3D Special

A 3 minute 3D-CGI rendered movie clip included with volume 6 of the Gunnm: Complete Edition manga reprint. It showcases Alita in a Third League motorball race with players from two of her races such as "Armor" Togo, Degchalev, and Valdicci, and depicts events from both of those races.

Aldébaran

Aldébaran is the first film from a series of works on hybridization: body and light, color and rhythm. The series are transforming and spiritualizing human body by the use of light, or more precisely by the screening of a film directly to the skin. The body is therefore the only screen for the abstract images made from mathematical models. This encounter between body and light produces a particular and creative energy beyond shapes. Lyrical abstraction, mathematical modelisation and sensual exploration of light, this film is the depth perception of the body stridences.

Hell Frozen Over

Bernadette Corporation describes this work as "A fashion film about the poetry of Stéphane Mallarmé and the color white." Produced for the 2000 Walker Art Center exhibition Let's Entertain, this short film employs a range of strategies to approach the idea of nothingness, emptiness, and vacuity, with an eye to how these notions relate to contemporary mass-cultural entertainment. Juxtaposing "documentary" takes on a fashion shoot with footage of semiologist Sylvère Lotringer giving an impromptu lecture on Mallarmé on a frozen lake, Hell Frozen Over maintains an ambiguous stance from which to both critique and celebrate the power of surface.

Expedition

Expedition is to be experienced as a journey on several levels. A purely visual and musical voyage through the challenges between two people – or the contrasts within each and everyone of us. The abstract artistic expression of both sound and picture has an ambiguity which allows for individual interpretations and experiences. The film consists of directly animated drawings and sequences joined in a “chain of mixes”. It is a visual poem where Sidsel Endresens’s music plays key role. Sidsel Endresen is one of Norway’s most prominent jazz performers and composers. She also makes music for dance, theater and film.

Olho no Olho

Criticism of renowned filmmakers to the boycott of the 1976 Law that regulated the exhibition of short films in commercial movie theaters in Brazil. The success of the result of this Law fostered the production of films in this category that were very well received by the public. Olho no Olho is a denunciation of the colonialist power that strangles the national audiovisual media and aims to reformat the world in its image.

Frida Kahlo’s Corset

A short experimental drama that follows a journey of transformation by the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) who wore a series of orthopaedic corsets. This film from artist-activist Liz Crow draws on Kahlo’s own words and characteristically bold painting style, refuting the picture of Kahlo’s life as one of tragedy and suffering.

Chasing Buddha

In his inspired first film, Chasing Buddha, Amiel Courtin-Wilson (who happens to be Robina’s nephew) provides an intimate portrait of a unique individual whose own search for inner peace helps guide others to transcend their arduous circumstances. An Australian expatriate, ex-Catholic, and ex-leftist radical with a penchant for speeding, espresso coffee, and four letter profanities, Robin Courtin hardly seems a likely candidate for a Buddabist nun. And yet, since her conversion, Robina has traveled the globe, teaching her very unique brand of Buddhism to an international following of passionate devotees.
