"One move breaking with alienation and the repeatedly mechanical gestures of labour and, where needed, society and that which it tends to sever from the world. One radical move hence choosing to restore ties with this material, concrete world of landscapes and textures : a walk, a simple walk, a recovery of this lesser yet inaugurating movement, constituent of mankind. "The Eye Of The Cyclops" tells of a man who walks, a man with no name, in pursuit of his own wander lines." (Patrick Leboutte)
Controle No. 6

Controle No. 6

2015 • 14 min
Shot entirely on CCTV cameras while working at a suburban multiplex cinema, Jann Clavadetscher’s Controle No 6 is no budget filmmaking in the truest sense. Constructed over many weeks, Jann surreptitiously performed for the cinema’s security cameras, in empty car parks, box office booths and lifts, only later going back to comb through these tapes in an attempt to retrieve the material in which he appears. With movie star looks and an affection for body comedy, Jann could be situated as the Harold Lloyd of the Experimental Film Society of which he forms part (as unlikely as that sounds). Lloyd serves as a model here for a naturally physical performer, but also for the ways in which Clavadetscher gracefully skips over what would otherwise be impossibly restrictive conditions in which to make a film.
Island

Island

2015 • 29 min • South Korea, United Kingdom
Island features an island located at the southern-most point of South Korea, one small enough that it takes but an hour to traverse its circumference. On the island, there are two extremely contrasting atmospheres, from crowded hordes to hours of emptiness. This contrast emphasises its sense of place as an island, both geographically and psychologically. Island sheds light on the lives of some of the residents of the island, and the questions “where are you now?”, “why are you here?” and “what happened to you?” will be put to the subjects of the film, the audience, and the director herself.

12 Silent Men

12 Silent Men

2015 • 6 min
In this chatty feature film, a silent short is hiding. We isolated the shots in which no character is talking: the quiet lulls in the stormy debate and the wordless reaction shots. We fashioned these silent shots into a six minute montage, adding only music and non-verbal sounds from the film. No dialogue. (Well, almost none. You’ll hear). Is the story arc still comprehensible? Can you still sense the tension and the power struggles between the twelve jurors? Judge for yourself.
