The emergent thermal beings not only compute a circular (convecting) current, but also briefly maintain this rotational circuit in a rhythmic equilibrium. Poised between liquid and gas states, the thermal beings form a coherent structure for an intense moment on the edge of chaos.

Stabbing

Meriläinen’s contribution to this video program is the most metaphoric representation of ideas around the human body as object. It focuses on slabs of tactile geletin, which is repeatedly stabbed with a serrated knife. This slow motion violence is arguably a reinterpretation of ideas around the body in sculpture in for example early surrealist works by Giacometti. The fleshy pink tones of the work emphasise the human aspect of the material. Here the inanimate becomes anthropomorphic.

The horizons of trembling film landscapes, captured on expired Soviet film, long out of production, developed by hand, break through the closed spaces of the city, reminding of the lost phenomenon of natural borders. For a short time, a person becomes, literally, the bearer of image and sound - he is given power over space, which usually oppresses him. For a while, he can turn it into something new or remind you of something long forgotten, elusive.

The steady tone of the voice emanating from the lips hypnotizes the listener, revealing the subliminal influence artists have on their audiences.
