A short film that ties into Godzilla (2014)

Abed’s lens is empowering and unwavering in Penelope (2014), whose title evokes the maritally loyal character of Homer’s Odyssey, who waits 20 years for her husband to return home from war, weaving and undoing a shroud daily to retain independence from would-be suitors. In Abed’s film, a woman methodically labours over the making of a garment using the bodies of hundreds of fish – creating a new and obscure reality, which is adorned and animated in something between dance and struggle, against a silent setting sun.

When his owner Zach leaves for the afternoon, little Indiana Bones discovers adventure in search of his lost bark. This video was created with 3 rolls of duct tape, 108 glue sticks, 18 large boxes of cardboard, a few all nighters with an adorable puppy.

'Clothes to Die For' is a documentary about the worst industrial disaster of the 21st century - the collapse of the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh, in which more than 1100 people died and 2400 were injured. The building housed factories that were making clothes for many western companies. Through a series of compelling interviews and unseen footage, the film gives a voice to those directly affected, and highlights the greed and high level corruption that led to the tragedy. It also provides an insight into how the incredible growth in the garment industry has transformed Bangladesh, in particular the lives of women.

Over 200,000 people in Canada are deaf. For deaf francophones, Quebec Sign Language is essential to both their identity and their connection to the deaf community. In the past decades, parents and doctors have pushed for hearing aids, cochlear implants and a mainstream education for deaf kids. Yet this thrust into the hearing world has come at a price for some deaf students, who may have trouble following classroom activities and end up being marginalized. The Dance of Words features young artists who have embraced their deaf identity in adulthood after spending a difficult childhood in the grey zone between hearing culture and deaf culture. These emerging artists show how they are using the arts to build a deaf culture that makes them proud. They shine a spotlight on their community while promoting and advancing deaf culture with a keen sensitivity.

And thanks to popular TV shows like Celebrity Rehab, which have installed the luxurious rehabilitation center in the popular consciousness, the national enrollment figures keep growing."

"Temp labor is one of the fastest growing industries in the US. Increasingly, temp workers are part of a business strategy to keep costs down and profits high. From mega-retailers to mom-and-pop shops, temps are hired to do some of the hardest and most dangerous jobs. While more and more of the American workforce is comprised of temporary workers, they're largely hidden from public view. Many of these workers stay silent, often having their livelihoods threatened if they speak out. "Wanting to get a glimpse of this invisible workforce, VICE News traveled across the country, scouring warehouses, temp agencies, and temp towns in search of the people, who make our world of same day delivery possible."

The video shows magnified images of Youngchun Hur’s investigative materials he studied and his handwritings, while two different narrators tell a story. (The script was made based on my conversation with Mr. Hur about his struggles, in which he went against the state’s cracking down on his attempt to unearth the truth over the last 30 years. The topics of conversation also include politics and key life events of the time, and the forensic evidence he found.) The two alternating narrators are Mr. Hur himself and a man in his early twenties. The work attempts to reflect the “voice” of the others through reading the material only with eyes, reading aloud, and re-reading by a different person’s voice.

A video documentation of performance done in Skagastrond, Iceland’s only restaurant, Grill 66. The restaurant’s menu are hamburgers and pizzas all named after cities and towns along the famous U.S. Route 66, which was then very important road for the American industry as well as road trips. Inspired by the Americanization found in a remote fishing village, Araki coordinated a one-night event at the end of his three-month filmmaking residency stay, where four non-Americans attempt to consume the entire 25-piece menu in one sitting, hence achieving the fastest road trip ever made from Chicago (bacon burger) to Hollywood (beef steak sandwich). A DVD of this video is currently archived in the village’s library, as the only record of eating competition that has ever taken place in the history of Skagastrond.
