Do you know about Friendship Island?

Do you know about Friendship Island?

2012 • 33 min
Friendship is a mysterious island at the Archipiélago de las Guitecas (Chile) which does not exist on the map. People from the south know the island by rumors that link Friendship to miraculous healings and UFO phenomena. Toto Island is part of the same archipelago to which Shingo traveled with an improvised manual for basic communication, containing ready made phrases in Spanish regarding the purpose of his trip. The manual, an old radio and his video camera would be the only means to establish contacts and collect information on the Friendship enigma.

In Search of Vanished Blood

2012 • 11 min • Germany
Inspired by East German writer and critic Christa Wolf’s 1984 novel Cassandra, about a struggling female artist and visionary. In Search of Vanished Blood comprises six 11-minute video projections streamed around the room through five clear Mylar cylinders, hand-painted with a variety of cultural and historical iconography, which hang in the center of the room. As the Mylar cylinders rotate, the colorful and layered imagery is projected onto the walls, creating a magical environment reminiscent of lantern slide presentations and other proto-cinema experiments in the 18th and 19th centuries

Astrid is seen engaging in wholesome craft activities: cutting out shapes from coloured papers and suspending them as mobiles. She operates in interiors re-constructed from 1970s home improvement magazines, and the tone is something between Blue Peter and Steiner School: idealised, creative, clean and purposeful.

The Show Is Still Going On

2012 • 47 min
Within the participation in the ninth session of the Dammam Theater Festival for short performances, director Maher Al-Ghanim presented a show «The show is still continuing», which summoned critic Ahmed Al-Mulla to say «the show is still continuing after rolling the top head towards the bottom of the stage or basement, where the echo of flogging and torture still reverberates in the place», adding «Maher Al-Ghanim, the director before the actor, presented a theatrical show, to say the least that it is crowded and hoarded with symbols and connotations until it almost crowded and collided with each other», and saw that the beginning of the show It was weaker than expected due to the density of signs and elements that decorated the first scene and continued throughout the show, as the shadow game came hesitant instead of being shocking and expressive with a depth that tightens the whole show, not to mention the dilemma of the suspended body that crossed the scene.

Set inside the training ring, the film explores the complex dynamics between man, animal and nature through an interaction between the horse and the young woman. Shot in black and white and set inside a training ring, the 6 minute film explores the complex dynamics between man, animal and nature through an interaction between a horse and a young woman. It plays with elements which take the work into a dimension of suspension in time and space.
