Having wavered in her thoughts a young girl establishes in her new self, a chrysalis. The girl, who has now hatched and transformed herself into a butterfly, dances wildly. This silent short was filmed in 8mm in Kyoto during the summer of 2012, and hand-developed using Caffenol, a home-made vitamin C and instant coffee-based developer. Selected for screening and nominated for an award at the 27th Image Forum Festival Japan.

“There are different forms of resistance. For Um Ayman, resistance is to stay in her home and take care of it. This woman and her family’s life has been turned into a hell, full of fear and terror, as settlers have ferociously attacked her land, home and orchards. Her overwhelming concern is to protect her home, “If they take my house they would take the whole mountain because it is the last house remaining on the mountain.”

When master student 'Documentary film' Sofie Peeters moved to Brussels, she was faced with a very frustrating phenomenon. On a daily basis, she was treated with disregard by strange men in the streets: cheap attempts to flirt, sexist roaring, intimidating persecutions,... Sofie decided to make her Master film about this. She caught the sexism on tape, confronted the offenders and questioned women about how they deal with this problem. The result: 'Femme de la rue'.

Asleep is an experimental and poetic documentary, shot in Super 8, about the Capelinhos volcano in the Azorean island of Faia. Also included is some footage of the successive eruptions during 1957 and 1958.

"Losing Sonia" shows how a seemingly rigid monastery can be a place full of life, beauty and artistic expression. Sonia, a young nun, paints icons at night and then sleeps until noon. She has a dog, cats, exotic birds, and a body that rebelled against the strict rigour of the monks. Trying to understand her and the meaning of her life choices, we come to Sonia's family, marked with the history of Russia. At the same time, the film is a journey inside the Orthodox church, showing that the deep spirituality of the nation is being reborn. „Losing Sonia" tells the story of an unusual woman who, within the walls of the monastery, is trying to rebuild the values that Russian society has lost under successive political regimes.

Djeneba is a mother of nine children living in Kadioloko, southern Mali. Since her husband left the family some years ago Djeneba and her children manage the family’s millet fields without him. Recently the eldest boy, Madou, has brought his new wife, Lidy, into the family group. In this film we explore daily life in the compound as Djeneba assumes full responsibility for her family’s needs. Filmmaker, Bata Diallo, herself a Malian, engages Djeneba’s life-world in observational style and by way of intimate conversations. As well as the family we meet Nono, the old chief of Kadioloko. He’s a good friend of Djeneba and a renowned local philosopher with a wry world-view and a sense of humour to match. Djeneba and her family are from the agriculturalist Minyaka ethnic group but we also get to know some Fulani pastoralists who share the village of Kadioloko. “Djeneba” is an hour-long chronicle of quotidian life in rural Mali from a woman’s point of view.
