WAP stands for White Australia Policy, a racist policy which limited migration into Australia into the nineteen fifties. This policy can be read as a marker of the guilt surrounding the Aboriginal genocide that had blotted white settlement of Australia since its inception. This film re-frames historic material to allow the voices of the deferred and dispossessed to speak their trauma, speaking often through the bodies and voices of the oppressor to reveal the unspoken truth.

My Paradise

“My Paradise” shows an intermediate world, a model world with real people. A model Dong's father created as an idea of an Asian paradise serves as the stage for the video. From conversations with her father, she learned about what he pictures in this paradise for himself and her mother; stories based on everyday life and Asian soap opera. The main characters in this video are Dong's parents. Five stories depict everyday life in paradise: Flowers are watered, chickens are fed, people are strolling and riding on flying horses. Dialogue is completely absent from the videos: only five pieces of music accompany the clips. Guitarist and composer Nicholas Erismann wrote new compositions for all five videos in the style of Vietnamese songs. Quynh Dong creates hyper-real video works to provide an innate platform upon which she deliberately challenges cultural stereotypes.

God Votes No

A documentary that highlights the religious left and the fight for marriage equality in Minnesota. The director spent nearly a year interviewing faith leaders across a spectrum of beliefs, along with scholars, politicians, and everyday people—all discussing how their views of religious texts and traditions support marriage among any two consenting adults. The title, "God Votes No," stems from the effort to defeat a proposal on the November 2012 ballot to define marriage in the Minnesota state constitution as the exclusive domain of one man and one woman. "God Votes No" features interviews with U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, practicing Mormons Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker of the Duluth band Low, and author Jay Michaelson, among many others.

The Use of White Phosphorus in Urban Environments

We examined videos from the 2008–2009 Gaza conflict, and from Fallujah, Iraq, where US forces had deployed against the Iraqi army in white phosphorus in 2004. Within a parametric model, we simulated projectiles detonating over various configurations of a generic urban environment. We concluded that in Gaza, white phosphorus was likely used to harass and terrorise citizens in order to clear neighbourhoods, rather than as a ‘smoke screen’, as the Israeli military had claimed. -FA

The Last Kilometer

The movie follows the story and an entire cycling season of “the old” Davide Rebellin, 41 years old and still fighting in the peloton after many victories and scandals, and “the young” Ignazio Moser, promising 20 years old son of cycling champion Francesco Moser. The famous italian journalist Gianni Mura, Tour de France correspondent since 1967, helps us to discover what cycling was and what it has become today, after doping scandals, passion, epic, richness and decadence. Finally, a bit of madness and insane joy is brought into the movie by Didi Senft, better known as “El Diablo”, a living and metaphorical symbol of all cycling fans, with their passion and their enthusiasm. The Last Kilometer is a portrait of cycling.

Marshal Tie Jia – Turtle Island

Chia-Wei Hsu's video engages with the history of a tiny island off the coast of Matsu, which is situated in the Taiwan Strait. The island is under the commandment of a local god called the " Marshal Tie Jia," a frog deity. This deity originated from a temple on Wu-Yi Mountain in China, which was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution when the deity migrated to Matsu. In Hsu's work, the island is used as a stage. Employing the cinematographic device of the "green screen" - a generic background replaced in the post-production process with any other background image - Hsu places a fictional version of the original tiny temple on the island, which has long since been replaced by a dilapidated bunker.
