Through original films and carefully constructed archives, the members of one family recount the events surrounding the death of the oldest brother and share their beliefs on life after death, into which is woven a parallel experience just as haunting to the director.

They challenged the segregation of the U.S. Military, fought the Nazi U-boats, and won. Narrated by actor Ossie Davis, the film interweaves the personal stories of individual crew members with archival footage of the ship and crew produced by the Navy. As a result of the media attention created by this documentary and its companion book, the crew members of the USS Mason were finally awarded the Letters of Commendation which they were recommended for in 1944, but had not received for 50 years. Proud, an award-winning dramatic feature film based on this story, stars Ossie Davis in his last movie role. Broadcast on PBS stations nationwide.

In the sequential frames of Joule, a daily practice manifests itself in the form of worship, of liturgy; an expression of tensions straddling the realms of the political and the sacred.

Noa Eshkol considered dance to be a piece choreographed for at least two dancers. The film installation Four Exercises in Eshkol-Wachman Movement Notation features four of Noa Eshkol’s dances, deemed here to be “exercises” as they are each performed by a single dancer – Ruti Sela, who began dancing with Eshkol in 1969. Sela moves among four identical gray volumes, which were designed by Lockhart to reference the space that the dancer’s body occupies as she moves through each exercise. Changing position for each dance, the volumes are sized according to the dancer’s measurements: the height of each volume is the height of the dancer with her arms raised, the width of each is equal to the dancer’s wingspan. The compositions of the volumes highlight the different spaces that each of the four dances occupy in space.

Tic Tac is a zigzagging parkour move in which the runner pushes off from a surface to jump over obstacles or climb tight spaces between buildings. However, not much of the eponymous technique can be seen in young filmmaker Josephine Ahnelt’s work: The movement takes place in the protagonists’ faces. Tic Tac examines in microscopic detail the psychological processes that play out while a group of young parkour traceurs do their thing. The camera focuses on their facial expressions and gestures, their anxiety and nervousness, and also their pleasure and pain.
