"Greater is the hatred that has inspired us, than the sea that separates us from it" reads one of the most significant sentences of Simón Bolívar's Letter of Jamaica. The work revolves around this phrase, whose words appear and disappear in the course of the sequence of images, disjointed from the cohesion that brings them together only at the end of the video to form that programmatic declaration that defends independence. The sentence is thus evidenced as a procedural symbolic knot, the result of a complex history and its possible articulations. The images of the video, in a constant swaying of a boat in the water, open up to the dimensions of the immensity of that sea that serves Bolivar as a metaphorization of the magnitude of the hatred that forces him to revolt against the colonizers. It is a sea in which is inscribed, in turn, a new history, which, as a possible reading, forces us to think of other colonizations and economic dependencies.

The person who left this video record is a woman who got married after acquiring a man after an affair. However, the man soon disappeared. A woman suspected of rekindling with her ex-wife discovers them in a surveillance video of an elevator in the apartment where the man and ex-wife once lived, while chasing her ex-wife's fate. However, the love scene with his ex-wife in the elevator surveillance video was his last sighting. The pursuit of the woman who turned into a stalker finally hits one fact that the man followed. The last shocking phenomenon that the woman experienced was recorded on the surveillance camera of the elevator.

A moody landscape of mountainous islands, recorded from a wave-tossed boat, is infused with the bobbing motions of the camera. In an effort to override the ever-shifting horizon, Cho splits the image into bands, each showing different vantages on the scene: the bluish outline of the islands, interspersed with views of the water's surface, golden in sunlight. The flickering of the bands, especially those of the water's choppy surface, is suggestive of digital static, a sense matched by Stephen Vitiello's evocative soundtrack.

Since the invention of the light bulb, natural darkness is increasingly invaded by artificial light. Once, light was considered unconditionally as an entirely positive element: the more light, the better. It increases safety and has a positive effect on our moods, but scientists are discovering that light also has a dark side as we are discovering its many unforeseen consequences.

The view of a lighthouse at dawn, subjected to a millimetric shift that is even less perceptible as movements of the text in the image are added to it. The specificity of these movements on the image comes from the way they penetrate into the image, creating a strange enlarged presence of the bodies, images, signs that brings about the dematerialization of the identity of each. Entering the Real means losing the world of objects and subjects, the world of opposition between reality and illusion in favor of a world where the most tangible effects of existence are constructed from traces and ghosts. Mrs O. tosses a chicken from her balcony. Mrs O. thinks her neighbor is a secret agent. Mrs O. has Alzheimer’s, but her pet name for her disease is “Alda.” With great humor, irony, and self-deprecating insight, this defiant and willful woman commentates on her own daily life in Prague. There’s a list on the door of friends and family members she’s allowed to let in even if she doesn’t recognize them. Sometimes she thinks she’s living under Communist rule, and she worries that if she doesn’t hang out a flag on Labor Day she’ll be arrested.

This film explores a now-obscure American expansionist, William Walker, who through military force and coercion became president of Nicaragua in 1856. Walker was one of many expansionists who believed it was America's Manifest Destiny to conquer all of the Americas and who engaged in border raids in Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America. Filmmaker Kathryn Ramey blends found footage, documentary photography, ethnographic inquiry, and personal travelogue with experimental film techniques such as hand-processing, optical printing, and time-lapse to detour and derail the various approaches to historymaking that have been applied to this story.
