This turgid potboiler was made with my class at the San Francisco Art Institute. It steam-rolls a series of overheated episodes to a colorful climax of redemption and moral rectitude. The rest of it wallows in a swamp of spiritual rot and loose codes of clothing and domestic decency. The cast is fresh-faced and eager to be involved in this low budget drama of even lower community standards and production values. The plot involves the corruption of a Christian community by the vapors that emanate from those baptized in Libido Lagoon: a drainage pond for everything vile and vitalizing (below the belt). Join the festivities if you dare, but don't say we didn't seduce you, since the flesh is weak and needs a dip into depravity now and then. Why not try the dark waters of Libido Lagoon for that secret jolt of rejuvenation and revulsion?

In this video, Cho conjures a frightening world of humans engulfed by electronic lights and flares. At first, the silhouettes of men and women passing in front of an electronic billboard are inter-cut with flashes of neon signs and the glowing filament of a light bulb. The rapid-fire editing and Cho's accompanying soundtrack portends an ominous progression. The silhouettes give way to a solitary figure, standing at the edge of a raging bonfire. This image is suddenly interrupted by a written warning: "Media Offline. Unrendered," drawing out the darker suggestions of this rote editing software message, to comment on the precarious human dependence on technology.

In part 2, Fowler initiates a new collaboration with Parisian-based composer Eric La Casa. Eric La Casa often consults maps, not in order to locate the habitat of specific species or significant sights but more prosaically to calculate proximity to traffic noise. The aeleatory nature of the routes taken often suggests a drift with the character of an “open investigation” and a broad appreciation for all sound. “The whole of my work consists in finding a centre, a listening point in relation to everything which is taking place. The microphones, then, amplify everything that this listening area transmits, that is to say, all the living substances in motion, from the interior of the body to the geophonic exterior”.

During this time, the 1974 book version has been reconsidered from back to front, each turning page a montage within the continuous 16mm black and white footage. An interview with J.R. Billington, a company owner in this building for nineteen years, discusses the socio-economical situation in military manufacturing in Orange County in the 1980's and today.
