Secret Machine

In Secret Machine, the protagonist encounters an antagonist that is studying her, measuring her body and comparing her to units of space and time. Clocks rush and her movements are calculated on a grid: the eye is observed through lenses; her breath is submitted to a resistance rate by putting her under water; needles are used to quantify her reactions and pain: and her voice and motion are recorded. For the scientist measurement is understanding. While human nature appears confined in the framework and efforts of rationality, the aspiration of trapping the soul conduce the antagonist to imagine the improvable.

How to Catch a Mole

An educational film produced by Whole Films International detailing the latest in Immigrant Mole Catching Technology. The film takes a close loot at a new virus developed by the Whole Worshiper Federation for the purpose of luring and capturing moles of every ethnicity. The newest traps, which they call 'markets', force the moles into high speed relentless competitive behavior for the purpose of obtaining 'goods' and 'services' through the exchange of 'money'. All these mechanisms force the mole out of its tunnel and into the light where it is caught and paraded around like a buffoon in what the Whole Worshipers call 'the workforce'.

Brook

In this short and beautiful piece, Jacobs creates a flicker effect by editing close-up footage of a stream together with sections of black, producing a sense of constant movement that never progresses. The frame of the image shifts from vertical to horizontal and then slowly rotates 360 degrees, adding a layer of more superficial movement to the pulsating, shifting colors of the stream. Thus foregrounding the image as constructed, flat surface, Brook is impressionistic and painterly in a way that much of Jacobs' work gestures at, but rarely fully embraces.

M

M is a film of assemblage, juxtaposition and manipulation of animated structures. Small architectures appear and overlap. Brief nebulas arise, the most complex structures sometimes recalling constellations and other stellar clusters. This abstract film shows the results of a year of visual and technical researches. Hand-drawn animations were scanned, manipulated and combined. The resulting images were printed on paper and reworked, then put in relation according to their level of complexity and the movements which constitute them.

Iranian, Gay & Seeking Asylum

The impact of such strict laws on homosexuality in Iran is examined through the life of asylum seeker Ramtin. Following the capture and torture of his boyfriend in Tehran, he now finds himself building a new life in Leeds. Ramtin and close friend Ali shed light on a situation ending the lives of many young men in their native country. This remarkable documentary finds Ramtin making the most of life in the U.K, playing flamenco guitar on local radio, practicing with a professional dancer and forming a support group for other gay Iranians. Yet fear of prosecution upon return to Iran, leaves Ramtin with his life in the balance as the Home Office continue to deny him citizenship.

This so-called analytic meditation began with a perfect and beautiful body, and transformed this step by step into an old, diseased, and dying one, to end the exercise by picturing a rotting and stinking corpse. The Primitchibu World - Purimichibu na Sekai

The first scene of Kasumi Hiraoka's first feature-length film starts with the heroine standing at a storefront covered with rusty metal shutters, the name 'Dream Center' written above it in katakana. The Primitchibu World is not so much a narrative film as a performance and mood piece, inspired and driven by the music of singer-songwriter, performer, and essayist Takeshi Shirai, a.k.a. Primitchibu (the moniker is a play on words on 'primitive' and the Japanese for 'private parts').
