On the right stills and video of the 2009 Canadian Rockies International Rodeo in Strathmore, Alberta. On the left stills and titles/text of rodeo bronzes from the Glenbow’s collection. Wong’s work is an impressionistic portrait, which explores this alternative part of Alberta’s history. It is not meant to be a documentary/literal portrayal of the gay rodeo but rather it situates it in the context of the story of the west and the construction of identities. Wong’s work uses these frozen gestures to explore the complexities of gender and sexuality. In-relation-to the bronzes, the videos introduce movement to their very static image and highlighting our constantly evolving and shifting society.

Versions is an ongoing project by Oliver Laric that deals with historical and contemporary ideas relating to image hierarchies. It proposes that present methods of creative production challenge the hierarchy of an authentic or auratic ‘original’ image. Rather than privileging a primary object, Versions suggests a re-direction for image making, one in which bootlegs, copies and remixes increasingly usurp ‘originals’ in an age of digital production.

Charlie Marx and the Chocolate Factory started as an investigation of the link between politics and chocolate, at the Karl Marx Confectionary Factory in Kiev, Ukraine. Since access to the factory was denied, the project had to be re-considered, re-invented or re-enacted. Mostly made of archival footage and re-enacted performances based on the company's website, the film merges what was left of the initial idea with what has been collected and realized instead. It borrows from the genres of video art, 'Man on the street' interview, direct address, corporate film, essay, and music video, without legitimately belonging to any of them. The film unravels as a reflection on its own failure, and yet keeps on investigating what has always been at stake: the shift from public to private property (and from analog to digital technology), dialectics of permanence and change, language as a mirror of ideology, and post-Soviet oligarchy culture.

The Scorpion King: The King before Pharaohs. Learn more about the king who likely united ancient Egypt, organized the world’s earliest phonetic writing system, and inspired the creation of the pyramids. Mace heads, a stone mounted on a wooden shaft, were an early weapon of war. They were used like a club to strike enemies on the head. The scorpion mace head was too large to have been used as a weapon, and was clearly reserved for ceremonial purposes. Archaeologists believe they have found the tomb of the Scorpion King at the ancient burial site of Abydos. He was buried with 700 wine jars, several of which had come from as far away as ancient Palestine. The Scorpion King may have presided over the birth of phonetic writing earlier than any other civilization in the world—200 years before the first pharaohs.

Lewis Klahr has started a new series of short animation films under the title of 'Couplets'. The project is intended to eventually result in a feature-length animation film. The theme is love, and each part focuses on a pop song. Wednesday Morning Two A.M., the powerful opening of this huge project, tells the story of a lost love. The music is by The Shangri-Las.

Two young men from Lima’s upper class take a break on a Sunday.

An adaptation of the fountain of youth tale and a lyrical meditation on the quotidian gestures of strangers. These lives, captured in the streets of Rome, constitute the counter-shot for the landscape through which a fictional character wanders, adrift. After meeting a young girl in the Campo di Fiori market, a woman who has come to Rome to die, journeys through its many fountains, haunted by visions of lost innocence. Staged on locations from the Roman films of Pier Paolo Pasolini.

Presented across three screens, Lungenflügel (Lobe of the Lung) 2009 is an immersive video installation, lasting just over fifteen minutes. It depicts a luxurious valley in which the two main characters, a naked woman and a pig, wander. The human and the animal are put on the same plane, each appearing on one of the facing screenings, left and right of the central projection. The woman crawls on all fours, eating apples straight from the grass, in a choreography that very closely emulates the movements of the swine. As the work progresses, the footage becomes more abstract, filmed partly underwater in hues of vibrant red and partly in fields of brightly coloured tulips.

A documentary that charts the International Military Tribunal assembled in the Nuremberg Palace of Justice by the USA, USSR and Great Britain to try and punish those responsible for war-crimes during World War II. The prosecution entered indictments against 24 major war criminals, including members of Hitler's Cabinet, the SS, and the Gestapo.
