Mirages

One image, in particular, is likely to haunt viewers: that of many men huddled together on the back of a truck. The men are headed northward, from Niger to the coast of Algeria. Just how long they will be travelling depends on countless unknowns. And once they’ve reached the African coast of the Mediterranean, they’ll still be far from their goal, for it is only then that their dangerous attempt to cross the sea to Europe begins. Theirs is a journey in hopes of a better life – one that frequently ends in death.

Mujo no kaze

Kaz, a Japanese college student, is thrown into a world of depression after his best friend is murdered in America. Elsewhere, a girl named Michi stands in front of a grave high in the mountains of Japan. Kaz embarks on a spiritual journey, where he crosses paths with Michi who is trying to escape the influence of Ito, the leader of a suicide club. Will Kaz and Michi go through with their self-destructive plans, or will divine intervention show them a way out?

Building Archive

Film “Archive Building” the product of a three month research trip to Warsaw focusing on the contemporary past. In his research, he explored archives to collect slogans from protest movements and demonstrations from the key year 1968 right up until the present. The film records the process of hanging these slogans, each written on a separate piece of card, on a web of red string, like so much encumbering washing, around the space of the flat in which he lived in Warsaw.

Scripture Bugs

"Scripture Bugs," tells the biblical story of Moses and Aaron — with a little football, a lot of insects and some quirky humor thrown in. Billed as a "3D animated musical adventure," the film was created, directed and composed by Aaron Edson, whose previous credits include "Liken the Scriptures." Edson's main character is Noah, an 8-year-old boy growing up in Hawaii whose imaginative world is occupied by six friends who also happen to be bugs. Noah loves the sport of football, but is soon hit with the realization that his talent level doesn't quite match his enthusiasm. That's when the discouraged boy's father tries to encourage his son by telling him the story of Moses, a great prophet who was not without his own shortcomings. The subtitle of Scripture Bugs is "We're All Important: The Story of Moses and Aaron."

But out of the victim Maria, Ziggy was born. Ziggy refuses Asperger's. Ziggy refuses to be a victim. Ziggy faces life with flannel shirts, wigs and a great sense of humor. Follow her stubborn struggle to understand the world and become a part of it.

Covert Hypnosis in Politics

This video is a mashup depiction of Senator John F. Kennedy (D-MA) and Vice President Richard Nixon (R-CA) delivering their introduction speeches at the first televised presidential debate (1960) in U.S. history. The candidates’ images are overlaid, moving together in a hypnotic manner. By recontextualizing this early use of technology in politics, we are able to consider the electoral process in a new way.

Someone comes up with a premise, like "If the Knight looks at someone, they fly up into the ceiling", and everyone comes up with variations on it. The Big Movie takes about twelve different premises and compiles, overlaps, intertwines, and otherwise serves them up hot and fast.
