I went to the company to get up in the morning. And I saw a video taken by a mobile phone. It's a festival to raise the large kite that Hamamatsu festival of Shizuoka. They raise the kite when the first child is born. I was printing the video to OHP. And I cut it to 35mm film. I then projected it. My wife and I went to raise the kite to the park. I attached a camera to thekite. The ground looked like my wife's belly. My wife gave birth to a child. We named her "Nemu". She was born in 2005. Nemu became one year old. She became able to walk. I wanted to celebrate with everyone.

It is a long walk every morning from the work camp into the heart of the forest. There, two men - a master tree feller and his apprentice - work in tandem. They fell giant trees, sending them crashing to the ground. Back at the camp where they live, each of them carries within himself the echo of the daily struggle.

This experimental movie deals with subliminal images. At the beginning of this work they actually were due to a technical and numercial problem with my video file. The images were chosen randomly, their refresh rate being low, they are superposing and confusing for the viewer's conventional vision. I did not rework the sound which was taken «as is», and thus can make the viewer feel like time is slowing or freezing. We never hear the end of the sentences, which requests a lot from the viewer' imagination. The images question the idea of narration and are for one's own interpretation.

Finding a job, family relationships, and finding a partner are daily issues LGBTQ Kenyans must work through. From a pastor to a male sex worker, 7 Years gives a voice to a group of people who are accustomed to keeping quiet.
