Here, a black void is filled with a grid of white dots from which white lines are anchored and shift about hypnotically. This is the digital medium, stripped down to its skeleton and exposing the formal qualities of the film. It is much like encountering not a foreign language, but an inhuman language; a language meant for machines, though created by humans.

In Butterfly, Seoungho Cho pursues an associative connection between a Buddhist drumming ritual and the pulsing drum solo in Iron Butterfly's famous psychedelic rock song "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida." Cho's mesmerizing documentation of the Buddhist ritual furthers the association by framing the drummer so that his movements resemble those of a butterfly beating its wings in air. The unexpected intermixing of the meditative drumming and Iron Butterfly's iconic hard rock classic adds introspective depth to a visually minimalist video.

The main character finds a ticket and a small box in "a room in an apartment" on the boundary between dream and reality. I wake up after sleeping, and when I fall asleep again, I'm on the "Sannokan Railway". A ticket transports him to the city of fantasy, "Sannohako Peninsula". Products of the past and scenery seen somewhere. The main character is led to a nostalgic place where he saw someone at the Hyakushiki Ryokan "Soran no Ma", which overlooks the sea. Full of sorrow and full of hope that they might be able to get it back. Through the journey, the man faces his deep sorrow.

LOUDTHINGS is an audiovisual account of an expedition into the innards of the computer. Using a set of elementary instructions such as modulation, masking, and feedback, Telcosystems programmed a self-organizing network of algorithmic processes for the creation of spatial image and sound. The result is a non-referential world which strains the senses; an exploration along the borders of human perception, through worlds of multiplying and mushrooming clouds of light and sound, through worlds of mesmerizing spatiality and interferring landscapes.

Whale Shark

Beginning at the fabulous coral reef of Ningaloo in Western Australia, intrepid marine biologist Mark Meakin attempts to unravel the mysterious wanderings of the biggest fish in the sea. Whale sharks grow to over 12 metres long but are gentle, filter-feeding giants; even Mark's five-year-old son can swim alongside them. Yet no-one knows where they go once they leave Ningaloo's turquoise lagoons. Using satellite tags and photo IDs, Mark tracks them to the white coral beaches of the Seychelles and the tropical jewel of Christmas Island, where bright-red land crabs begin their annual migration. It's hard work, taking in 20 failed satellite tags and countless frustrating dives, before Mark makes a breakthrough which doesn't just add to our understanding of these huge 'dinosaur fish' but offers crucial information about how the whale sharks of Ningaloo can be protected better.

We see them both literally and figuratively floating down the river of life together in this moving short documentary.
