Watercolors

The surface of a pond serves as a canvas on which nature creates a continually changing painting that mirrors but alters details of the landscape surrounding it. Beginning in the late winter, just before leaves appear on the trees, the film records the changes in weather, foliage, color, and light throughout a year. The images provide visual cues from which viewers can imagine their own sound tracks — a music of the sounds of wind and water. Yet, weather is not the only painter of this picture. A choice of black–and–white film for a passage of patterns on the ice evokes Chinese ink painting, and distorted reflections of architectural details and views through purposely out–of–focus trees inspire, in the imagination, paintings of what is not shown, but might be.

He studied with Fernand Leger, worked for Vogue, made a documentary on Muhammad Ali but is most well known for pushing photographic technique to it's limits.

I Love You

This performance involves Melati repeating the phrase “I love you” while moving with a sheet of glass measuring 90 x 200 cm for three to six hours. She repeats this simple phrase, commonly uttered in romantic exchanges, over and over in an attempt to engage with the deeper layers of language and the diversity of meanings that it may carry. Over time, and through repetition, this declaration of love begins to loose its meaning, leaving only the sounds of the syllables. The artist asks the audience to consider the limitations of language and how language can cause miscommunication and confusion in inter-personal relationships. (museum MACAN)

Bathroom Masochistic Fantasy

A woman commits a violent suicide in a bathroom, involving the use of Harakiri. "I wonder how it feels to cut your own stomach open. Even though it is very scary, I dream about it as if someone deep inside me is provoking me. Just thinking about what would happen if I had to have my stomach cut off makes my heart pound in my chest. The self-deprecating desire of an office lady who dreams of the pleasure of hara-kiri."
