Tongue of the Hidden

Tongue of the Hidden

2007 • 6 min • United Kingdom
The poet Hafez, also known as the Teller of Secrets, used the language of human love and the metaphors of wine and drunkenness to describe his desire for the Divine and intoxication with the mysteries of the Universe. Contrast the current, often narrow, view of the media on Iran with the profundity and sophistication of Persian (Iranian) culture and its influence. The landscapes and characters from the film are all constructed of Persian calligraphy.

2007 • 50 min • Italy
Cult director, producer, great discoverer of talents, icon of the low budget philosophy, passed to history as the one who managed to make 100 films in Hollywood without losing a dollar. Roger Corman, an independent artist out of the box, embodies the ideal of an autarkic and democratic art, able to combine originality and popularity. In a journey of fifty minutes, through the words of the director, the images of his most famous works and crossed testimonies, is composed the portrait of an artist unique in the world, able to discover a very young Jack Nicholson - of which you can see the thunderous look already in La piccola bottega degli errori - but also talents like Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Jonathan Demme, Ron Howard, James Cameron, Joe Dante.
White Wall Tehran

White Wall Tehran

2007 • 2 min
In January 2007, I was stopped on the streets of Tehran by members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, who claimed I had been filming them with my Mini DV video camera. They detained me momentarily and erased 27 seconds of my footage by recording over it—pointing the lens at the white interior wall of their headquarters. This act of erasure now constitutes the artwork.

Credo: A Nietzschean Testament

Credo: A Nietzschean Testament

2007 • 56 min
A blistering monologue from British orator Jonathan Bowden, Credo is less a political speech than a philosophical inferno. Channeling Nietzsche, Heraclitus, and a firestorm of cultural critique, Bowden delivers a feverish testament to hierarchy, belief, and Western identity. Equal parts performance art, intellectual tirade, and spiritual invocation, this final address captures a mind ablaze with conviction, railing against modernity's flattening of thought, tradition, and greatness.

Inside the Hothouse 4

2007 • 13 min • Canada
Inside Hothouse 4 takes an informal look into the personalities and frenzy behind the fourth iteration of the NFB Animation Hothouse. A hand-held-mini-doc, reflective of the youthful iconoclasm of the eight emerging filmmakers (6 Canadians and 2 Brazilians). The Hothouse filmmakers and their NFB collaborators offer candid and oftentimes pithy comments on the nature of auteur animation filmmaking, the place and role of the NFB in that world, and the excitement and fear of making a first professional film. This year's Inside Hothouse mini-doc includes the process of generating podcasts for the Hothouse 4 web site.

A 14-part experimental film cycle made from impromptu Super 8 footage which was shot every day for one year.
