New Ratio

New Ratio

The colour fields that comprise New Ratio involve a tense relationship with the edge of the screen. The piece explores the move from the 4:3 screen ratio to 16:9, which is now effectively the standard for broadcast television and video. In the construction of New Ratio each colour was assigned a particular tone: white was attributed a standard 1KHz test tone; the pitch of the tone attributed to blue was half that of the test tone; and each of the colours in between (in descending order of luminance) were attributed tones at intervals between these values.

A whimsical dance of jetés and arabesques movement is an older principe than the humid and blinks in a wild tempo that could last indefinitely and yet it stops at 4 minutes and 55 seconds. It is a series of snapshots, flashes without light that record all the times, the present ticks by and the seasons pass by in fast motion while the tree rids itself inside a round of fog, whether leafy and abounding in branches and ramified leaves or on the other hand light and loose. (Suzanne Doppelt)

Illegal races, Street challenge, incomparable characters - a portrait of the era. Nobody argues how fashionable it is now, good or bad, This is chaos, creativity, adrenaline. The speed and speed of reaction is the manner of a free artist, not constrained by any framework and obligations. The film was shot in the MTV style that is so popular among young people now. Mikhail and his team made an almost documentary film. Not a single take in the studio, everything was filmed only on the streets of Moscow in real extreme conditions, without official permission, without special letters. This is nonsense for the capital. Feel real freedom, forget about the constraints, about the conventions imposed by the metropolis. Only forward.
