This “thief-video” combines disparate textual sources, contemporary reenactments of historical events and archival footage in order to relate the uneasy fusion of the French poet’s criminalized sexuality with late 60s American counter-culture.

Houses, neat, some pretty, some with children playing in front, collide with sounds. Sounds remembered from so long ago, maybe from one of Beirut's many wars, maybe even from future wars. In this 6 minute video, the street scape of Broken Hill, 'the accessible outback' country town of Australia, is seen from the viewing platform of past realities, woven into a tapestry of morality, memory and experience. There, exponential repetition sets apathy on a collision course with fear and where displacement of the senses, synchronicity and loss accelerate at vertiginous speed. Mangled silences interrupt, but only to disrupt the remnants of illusion and safe living, to send eidetic shock waves through rose coloured lenses. The question of responsibility then emerges to demand if not an answer, then a pause for grief, for consideration due to the boundaries of the senses and the centrality of the body's, any-body's, pain and sorrow.

Film made by John Kneller with a sound design by John Shipman. It focuses on the environment using time-lapse cinematography as a means to capture phenomena that is impossible to see with the naked eye. Automated pan, tilt and zoom mechanics were custom-built by the filmmaker to augment the time-lapse techniques. The resulting imagery is a hyper-reality of landscapes transformed by means of the camera's mechanical mediation. The sound design was created from naturally recorded sound phenomena and musical performances. The Romantic musical elements are reminiscent of lyrical depictions of nature and environment. The deliberate mediation of the sound and image suggests that our relationship to the environment cannot be viewed outside of the realm of the political. The film is a lament for the plundering of the earth. Paradoxically, the camera also exists to plunder the earth, mining images. The film was completed in 2006.

The origins of Chinese martial arts can be traced over 6,000 years ago to self-defense needs, hunting activities and military training in ancient China. Hand-to-hand combat and weapons practice were important components in the training of Chinese soldiers.

Since the early 1990s, Roye Villevoye has regularly visited the Asmat (a Papuan people) in Irian Jaya, Papua New Guinea. After several films, Beginnings returns to his perspective of the first and naive interest of a Westerner. In two parts, shot on the spot and in Holland, we get to know an almost paradise-like state of innocence. It only becomes clear later how this was achieved.

It is a film based on Scandinavian ballads, allegorically portraying the complex relationship between the two beginnings - Male and Female, Light and Darkness, Love and Death. The eternal dance of life embraces two main characters - the Girl and the Knight in various guises (a king, a jester) - the relationship between whom develops on two levels - realistic and symbolic. The visual approach based on medieval engravings, the Scandinavian tradition of wooden sculptures and ornaments as well as the colour scheme carry profound philosophical and symbolic meaning. The film is made in the technique of total animation.

thaw expresses MacDonald’s frustration with images of femininity in Western visual culture. Using popular paintings from the history of European art, the film explores the feelings of panic and immobility that accompany the filmmaker’s exploration of her sense of self in the face of gendered cultural expectations. The film also presents a meditation on grief and the loss of MacDonald’s grandmother as a broader theme in the work. This is the final film in The Self-Portrait Series (2001-2006).
