Light Work Mood Disorder

Light Work Mood Disorder

2006 • 26 min
Film artist Jennifer Reeves and musician Anthony Burr collaborated to make this live film and music performance, which mixes and subverts symbols of science, industry, medicine and madness. Up to 4 screens and 4 channels of multi-layered music immerse the audience in colorful rhythmic molecular forms, morphing frequencies and visual textures, which are broken down to the particle. Found images from the 20th century educational films are sewn together with melted down pharmaceuticals affixed directly to the film, and form a concentrated fusion with pulsating electronic sounds and an acoustic multi-tonal bass clarinet. Illustrations of brain dendrites, synapses, waveforms and assembly lines personify the movement of frequencies and light as they envelop the audience. As the performance ensues, the intensity builds to a point of irresistible danger and rupture.

Lefties: Angry Wimmin

Lefties: Angry Wimmin

2006 • 60 min
This film charts the rise and fall of an extreme strain of feminism, which came out of Leeds in the late 1970s and early 80s. ‘Revolutionary Feminists’ castigated the mainstream of the women’s movement for being soft on men. They called on women to become ‘political lesbians’, believing that women would never be free until they withdrew from sexual relations with men.
The Golden Valley - Swindon to Gloucester

The Golden Valley - Swindon to Gloucester

2006 • 49 min • United Kingdom
Skirting the edge of the Cotswolds the line from Swindon to Gloucester runs through the valley of the River Frome – enchantingly known as the Golden Valley. The viewing platform for our 36¾ mile journey is a 2-car class 143 Pacer operated by Wessex Trains. Some of the delights of any journey over this route are the classic GWR stations at Kemble and Stroud, little changed over time. As well as the usual shots of the driver at work, trackside runpasts and station sequences, there are aerial shots taken from a helicopter.

Larsen & Friends - ABECEDA

2006 • 60 min
Larsen & Friends ABECEDA captures an extremely special evening for Larsen, one that places them in a perfect visual and musical perspective revealing more an a little about this enigmatic quartet from Torino, Italy. For one night only Larsen assembled their closest musical friends to play to a sold out crowd at the Teatro Colosseo in Torino Italy. The purpose of the performance was to pay tribute to the work of Czech avant-garde designer, typographer, founder of Devestil and cultural radicalist Karel Teige and his ABECEDA - a 1926 collaboration with poet Vitoslav Nezva which minimalized text down to its basic components establishing a poetic dialogue between text and images.

Songs of Praise for the Heart Beyond Cure

Songs of Praise for the Heart Beyond Cure

2006 • 14 min • United States of America
Songs of Praise for the Heart Beyond Cure is a fourteen-minute experimental video that unfolds through a series of short episodes. "To describe Cooper Battersby and Emily Vey Duke's new video as ironic doesn't do it justice. Irony implies brittleness, cleverness and world weariness, but these two artists have...a sense of wonder at the endearing weirdness of life and all the vulnerable, furry little creatures immersed in it (mostly us)...[Songs of Praise for the Heart Beyond Cure] consists of a sequence of vignettes that share a kind of bleak humour, but the force of these artists' imaginations makes the whole anything but depressing." --Sarah Milroy, Globe and Mail
