The film is about Sergey Kuryokhin, one of the most prominent authors in the Russian musical avant-garde of the late twentieth century. He was not just a performer or a composer of music. Every landfill is inhabited by people. They also work, relax, have fun. True, in your own way. Throughout the year, the authors of the film traced the fate of several inhabitants of the "garbage city".

An older man begins dancing in a public square, oblivious to the laughing gawkers who pass by. He seems to want to engage the attention of a young man sitting on a bench who begins weeping. A group of youngsters mimics and mocks the dancer. He's oblivious to them. The music is a sprightly tune that Fred Astaire might have used as he enticed Ginger Rogers into his arms. And didn't he do a lot of dancing in the streets in his movies? Nobody laughed at him. But, of course, he was only on a pretend street in a Hollywood soundstage. We know this is also a setup. Still, it's embarrassing. They're making public displays of themselves. The man, expressionless, continues to dance. The other man continues to weep. One kid starts taking the performance seriously and joins in the dance as a sort of pas de deux. Both men ignore him. And then it's over. We don't know why it began or ended. Courting ritual or celebration of self, it's unclear. (UbuWeb)

The film shows us the agonies and the inner conflicts of the protagonist. He, an artist, whose world is full of myriad colors, sees the contrast in gray shades of his mother's possessiveness. Visually stunning, this film depicts the relationship of mother and her artist son, they both living in the same space, yet so afar in their perspectives.

Television spare parts follow each other and grow in number on an electronic soundtrack. From an installation made of materials found in the street, this film emphasises the end of an era, that of analogue and passivity, and the beginning of another, that of IT and interactive systems. Like Hal in 2001 A Space Odyssey,television bids farewell.

Ritualised through performance to camera, Stages of Mourning is Pucill’s journey of bereavement. In as much as this is a meditation on coming to terms with loss, the film is an exploration of how our relationship with the dead is made different through film. The artist orders image fragments of her late lover and collaborator, Sandra Lahire. By trying to physically immerse herself into photographs and film footage or by restaging these, Pucill forms a continuous stream of a life of two lovers. Through this doubling and layering, illusions accumulate as if these were a product of a machine that didn’t stop.
