The classic Hero And Heroi/albtrack/ghosts line-up with Cousins and Lambert plus Hawken, Cronk and Coombes really rocks on this show, and provide an opportunity for many who never saw that line-up perfom live to relive those halcyon days.

I Am Lost to the World

"I am lost to the world..." (Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen...), the title is quoted from a poem by Friedrich Rückert. This German romanticist poet wrote of the sadness of disappearance. An anonymous amateur cineaste shot some scenes in Kyoto in 1934. This footage has since suffered from typical vinegar syndrome (Hydrolysis) resulting from improper storage. The films were falling into decay and would probably eventually disintegrate without being seen again by anyone. "Film" is not a immortal document, but a vanishing existence. The film which we can know may be merely slight.

Berlin in the Winter

The film is one of my recently series work, "Re-interpretation for the private films" which has been cited from old home movies. A Japanese diplomat, Mr.A.O. started for his assignment to Berlin since 1929. He was also the person fascinated by filmmaking. Of course, generally said his films were just the "Home Movie", however when we saw his films carefully, we could be found out the sensibility of other filmmakers in 20s, just like Ruttmann, Vertov or so. I'd like to observe the lost films.

For the moment he gets out on the streets with his digital camera and he snoops around. While he explores the digital world capturing street girls under the red lights, firemen and kindergarteners, we can find something new that we've missed in our ordinary lives before.

A young woman moves to Tokyo. Her quest to find spiritual values hidden in the modern city leads her to take photographs and ends in a pilgrimage to a remote cemetery in the mountains. Shot amongst the neon lights and crowds of Tokyo and the ancient graves and forestry in the Buddhist monastery town of Koyasan, The Mountain of Signs is a film homage to the essay form of zuihitsu in traditional Japanese literature. Its nameless female protagonist illustrates her surroundings through a diaristic monologue that combines poetry and philosophy.

The Legends of New Orleans : The music of Fats Domino

Well, maybe not that fast; Fats's style was never what you'd call exactly frenetic, and he was well into his seventies at the time of this show. But there are a whole lot of hits--"I'm Walkin'," "Blueberry Hill," "Walking to New Orleans," "My Blue Heaven," etc.--and they're just as irresistible as ever, with Domino and band (including a full horn section) in top form as they deliver their brew of R&B, rock & roll, and country music with its distinctively rollicking New Orleans vibe.
