The film is dedicated to the outstanding Russian engineer, inventor, scientist Vladimir Shukhov. Under his leadership, about 500 bridges were designed and built, the first oil pipeline in Russia, the Kievsky railway station in Moscow. The callsigns of the first Soviet radio station, and later the first television programs, were transmitted from antennas installed on the Shabolovskaya radio tower in Moscow, built according to Shukhov's design. In Samarkand, after the earthquake, a beautiful monument of medieval architecture, the minaret of the Ulugbek Madrasah, was restored according to his project. 63 years of engineering work, and more than ten projects completed each year.

Described in Art Review as the world’s most influential and expensive living artist, the German painter Gerhard Richter was enjoying enormous success in London with his retrospective show at Tate Modern entitled Panorama in 2011. This particular film was made some years ago at the time of his equally successful American retrospective at MOMA entitled “40 Years of Painting” and charts his entire artistic career. Born in Dresden in 1932, the year before Hitler came to power, Richter later grew up in communist East Germany, before escaping to the West just before the Wall went up in Berlin. Since then he has produced a large diverse body of work from his blurred photobased paintings to his gigantic abstractions, from his Baader Meinhof pictures to his perceptual installations using sheets of glass. Gerald Fox’s film caught up with the artist at his home in Cologne where he was undergoing a period of quiet reflection and preparation before beginning a new series of paintings.

In 1941, the writers Louis Aragon and Elsa Triolet fled the Nazi-occupied zone of France, arriving in Nice. There they met and befriended Henri Matisse. Aragon resolved to write a book about the great painter, but it wasn't until 1970, just after Elsa's death, that he finally completed "Henri Matisse, roman".

Now the man, who has made a career writing about others, finds himself as a character in a story. Bhedako Oon Jasto, or Like Sheep's Wool, an hour long documentary, is named after the song he first heard in a highland village north of Kathmandu. It is his deeply personal odyssey in search of the elusive tune. For eight long years, Wagle would sing Bhedako Oon Jasto - to his friends, and then singers and musicians, to check if they were familiar with the tune, but to no avail. Early this year, Wagle has his calls answered. Wagle sings the song to Amrit Gurung of Nepathya. Amrit shows interest to sing the song, and requests Wagle to give him the lyrics in writing. Wagle puts forward a clause - he tells Amrit - " Both you and me have to revisit the place where I heard this song.

Alice is the daughter, the ‘oriental pearl’, of filmmaker Nicole Giguère. ‘Big Noses’ is the familiar Chinese term for Westerners such as Nicole. In the late 1980s, Quebec led the way in adopting children from The People’s Republic of China. Since then, over 5,000 Chinese children, mostly girls, have found a home in Quebec. This documentary follows Alice over a span of ten years, as she and many of her friends face the challenges of growing up in a white world. The one hour program presents Big Nosed parents and their Chinese daughters, sharing their love, concerns and expectations as they learn to adopt each other. Members of Quebec’s long established Chinese community also express their views on this emotional and sometimes controversial issue. The film is a portrait of an ever-changing world, and shows how the presence of so many new Quebecers with almond-shaped eyes can contribute to the evolution of our society.
