Baby Beethoven is the 10th Baby Einstein video in the series to be released. It uses musical compositions accompanying footage of toys and other novelty items. As the name suggests, and made as a musical sequel to Baby Shakespeare, the classical music of Baby Beethoven was composed by Ludwig van Beethoven, albeit rearranged with softer instruments by Bill Weisbach.

Tristram Cary was born at Oxford in 1925 to parents immersed in the academic world. He studied music, interrupted by service in the Royal Navy during the Second World War, and was one of the early pioneers of tape recording music. During the 1950’s he was one of the few composers at the cutting edge of electronic music. In 1963, he provided the perfect musical complement to Terry Nation’s script for The Mutants – his abrasive, searing score brought the Dalek’s world to life and played a large part in the success of Doctor Who. Here, in a rare interview, Tristram tells us about those early days working in electronic music and the other Doctor Who scores he worked on. And Tristram also reveals the highlights of a career that’s included major concert works, plus film, television, radio and books. Over fifty years of creative endeavour, including a move to teaching music in Adelaide, Australia in the 1970’s. An amazing man with an amazing talent…

Julie Caitlin Brown is an experienced and well-respected character actor based near Los Angeles in the USA. To science fiction fans she is probably best known for her role as Na’Toth in Babylon 5, but she appeared as a guest star in numerous other TV series including B.L. Stryker, Star Trek (both in The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine), JAG, Wolf, Renegade and Sliders… to mention just a few. In this Myth Makers, Nicholas Briggs goes behind-the-scenes with Julie to discuss her roles in Babylon 5 and Star Trek, and he also discovers Julie is an extremely talented stage actor, writer, singer/songwriter and musician… a woman who definitely has more than one string to her bow! Shot on location at the Gallifrey One convention in Los Angeles, this Myth Makers also features tracks from Julie’s two CD’s Sheddin’ my Skin and Struck by Lightening.

In this work, the echo of Chornobyl appears literally as a stage for a "porn film". The main characters are a couple dressed in silver anti-radiation suits, striking erotic poses and imitating sexual intercourse against the backdrop of apocalyptic views of Prypiat. Grey high-rise buildings, abandoned attractions, and the city itself, which by its very appearance excludes hope for any kind of life, resonate with the figures of two lovers who, in their desire to be together, only produce a tragicomic effect of powerlessness.

"Salty" was filmed on location at an old salt mine on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, in the outskirts of the city of Burgas, where Daniel Bozhkov grew up. The video shows the artist licking the edge of a large mound of salt, the size of an Egyptian pyramid. Then he tries to dig a hole with his mouth and bury his head in the muddy ground. A candid look at the burgeoning punk rock scene in South Korea, focusing on the club and the bands that started the movement.

The image shows two faces of the story of hip-hop music, which submerged in the seventies in the New York outskirts of The Bronx. Two vinyl records are turning on a turntable. On the one hand the soundtrack is heard of three decades ago, on the other the voices of musicians today. The turntable is mounted at the foot of a block in the Bronx. It is the end of a Block Party, a ghetto party centring on hip-hop. In the same image those artists are brought together who stood at the cradle of this musical genre.

A few takes of Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray, a scene from Billy Wilder’s Double Indemnity, are the starting point for Picture Again: a woman and a man in a car, the murderess and her prey. The images in this sequence are accompanied and superimposed by documentary street scenes from Berlin and Madrid. A few birds flutter like birds of prey through an old horror film. Picture Again values a thorough structuralist formation, musical rhythm of the images, without refraining from the ecstatic.
