He was also the first star in history to make over one million dollars a movie, and even saved an entire studio from bankruptcy with one film. We will always remember Elvis the rebellious rock superstar, but we must also remember Elvis the Hollywood megastar, who continues to entertain his legions of fans to this day with his film roles. Elvis at the Movies is a look back at the man, the star, and the films that made Elvis Presley one of the biggest names in movie history.

Elena Garro, Mexican writer and former wife of Octavio Paz, returns to Mexico after more than 20 years in exile, accompanied by her 18 cats, her daughter and "two trunks full of insults" to look for a house. This documentary is an impressionist portrait of Garro's final four years of life, recounting remembrances of her delightful childhood, her marriage to Paz, the ups and downs of her literary career, the '68 Tlatelolco tragedy, her break with the intellectual world, her flight from Mexico followed by exile and the disenchanted return, all filtered through her prodigious, acid imagination.

From 1968 to 1972, photographer and filmmaker Bob Campbell documented the activities of Dian Fossey as she developed a cross-species bond with Rwandan mountain gorillas. Campbell shot 70,000 feet of film, but only a fraction of his material was edited into the lecture presentation that preceded Fossey's Gorillas in the Mist. This program compiles highlights from the previously unreleased footage, offering an unforgettable glimpse into the gorilla community and Fossey's relationship with it. Her methods may not entirely jibe with those of modern conservationists, but there is no denying the profound impact of her work on current research and eco-activism.

A found-footage film based on 35mm film material from an anonymous Finnish physical test that took place in the 1940s. The original purpose of the test remains unknown today.

"One week after 9/11, independent filmmakers Jay Rosenblatt and Caveh Zahedi put out a call to over 150 experimental and documentary filmmakers asking for contributions to a collective film project (Underground Zero) addressing those tragic events and their aftermath. My five-minute contribution, Innocence and Despair, provided me with an opportunity to make my first digital video (with material culled from 16mm footage, both archival and my own) and to make something of a public work, something I had never done before. The title is copped from a favorite album of mine (The Langley Schools Music Project) that was originally recorded by Hans Fenger in 1976-77 with his grade school students singing popular songs of the day. I was meditating on ideas of before and after, of how the summering people in my little film could never have imagined looking up at the sky at a world such as existed on the day…" —Phil Solomon

Domestic (as long as it lasts) was made in 2002 in Gordon’s one-bedroom apartment in downtown New York City. It shows the artist’s foot repeatedly kicking the camera around a clean, quiet domestic space until the video blacks out. The victim of the booting, the camera itself, is recording the footage we see. The viewer is disoriented by the film’s upsetting of the conventional relationship between documenting and participating, which makes the camera complicit in the act.

A young boy escapes from the bus on his way home from a field trip to an orphanage, and is picked up by a clown in the park. His goal is to find his mother. The clown's uncle, who used to be a yakuza, tells the boy that his wife, who gave him a lot of trouble, died after their divorce, and that his only daughter has been taken in by an acquaintance and is living in Tokyo. The boy's search for his mother was fruitless, and when he returned, an unexpected event awaited him.

‘It’s springtime’, a little bird stealing the filaments of my window screen reminded me this morning. ‘The sun in shining, the sky is blue, the trees are blossoming pink flowers and there is a wide world to be explored…what are you doing indoors?’ This 2002 video by artist Pipilotti Rist seems to be proposing a similar criticism in her reframing of concepts of time, season and the human lifespan.
