Allons-Y Alonzo: Souvenirs of a Landscape

2001 • 27 min
In 1998 a 260-kilometer stretch of the Loire River—and its adjoining parklands, vineyards, chateaux, churches, abbeys and prehistoric sites—from Sully-sur-Loire to Chalonnes, was nominated by the government of France as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Focusing on dynamic and ephemeral dimensions of the cultural landscape, Strickland adopted the shorthand of “microcinema” to portray a collection of local characters and environmental transitions that would lend animate perspective to the Loire Valley World Heritage web site. Adding the glimpses together in a 27 minute movie, Allons-y Alonzo reflects a filmmaker’s quest to glean the senses of a place and to register its Genius Loci. The web site with Strickland’s video was produced as a design prototype for UNESCO World Heritage Centre.

Myth Makers 51: David Brierley

Myth Makers 51: David Brierley

2001 • 50 min • United Kingdom
At first glance, David Brierley would seem an unlikely choice to take over from John Leeson as the voice of K9. As one of Britain’s dedicated character actors David had built a career in television, theatre, radio and commercials that paid a living and still allowed him to walk down the street unnoticed. He was happy – he didn’t really want to be K9’s voice! Perhaps it was the wealth of experience that David could bring to K9, his ability to give K9 more depth, that appealed to Christopher Barry and John Nathan-Turner when they were casting for Creature from the Pit. Whatever their reasons – they wanted David. In this Myth Makers, Nicholas Briggs finds out why David finally took the job and the challenges and rewards he found. And why did he leave after only one season?

2001 • 55 min
El Alma al Aire is the fifth studio album recorded by Spanish singer-songwriter Alejandro Sanz in which he gives us interpretations that come from the soul, melodies in which it seems that the voice breaks. It is one of his more suggestive and emotive works. It beat all the records of sale of the Spanish market on having reached the 1,000,000 copies in the first week.
