Les noces - one of Stravinsky's last works on Russian themes (first performed in 1923 with choreography by Bronislava Nijinskaya). Stravinsky's "The Wedding" is a vivid example of the "rhythmic" music characteristic of the work of the composers of the 1920s and 1930s. Rhythm in it is not only the primary organizing principle, but also the most important factor of musical language. It is characteristic that the composer here does not need either strings or wind instruments: the score of the Wedding, in addition to the voices, consists of percussion, which requires six performers at once, as well as four pianos, which are used here as a special kind of percussion.

Neighborhood Animals, also spelt as Baby Dolittle: Neighborhood Animals, Baby Einstein: Neighborhood Animals and Neighbourhood Animals in the UK, previously titled as Baby Dolittle: Neighborhood Animals before its late-2002 re-release, and also commonly known as just Baby Einstein: Neighborhood Animals before its mid-2003 re-release, is the 7th video to be released in the Baby Einstein series. Since then, as well as keeping his theatre career on track, he has appeared in countless films and television programmes including Apollo 13, Outbreak, Mission Impossible, Rich Man, Poor Man, Quincy, Cannon, the list goes on and on… But it’s as the stalwart Lt. Boomer in Battlestar Galactica that Herbert is probably best remembered. During one short season which began in 1978, the cast and crew together created one of the most memorable science fiction television series ever made. Find our what is was like acting alongside Lorne Greene, Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict plus the problems filming such a technically complex series. But – most importantly – find out Herbert’s favourite piece of dialogue from the series!

In Kwakwaka’wakw society in British Columbia, masks form part of the symbolic heritage of nobles and chiefs. The mask shown here, a late 19th-century transformation mask carved from cedar and taken from the Musée de l’Homme, expresses duality: closed, it is a crow; open, a human face with a hooked nose. These ancestral objects, manifestations of spirits, accompany myths, dances, and costumes, appearing in ceremonies and potlatches, gatherings where privileges are transmitted. Long suppressed, Amerindian culture was rediscovered by ethnologists E. Curtis and F. Boas, and later by surrealists and Claude Lévi-Strauss in exile in New York during the 1940s. Bill Holm, an expert in Indigenous art, analyses the mask’s form. A sculptor evokes the recurring egg shape, basis of all creation, while a dancer recounts the legend of the crow that brought the tlasala, the dance of peace.

Giant apples appear in a city, and when people eat them, new apples start to grow from their heads.

This hand-painted work presents the semblance of a dark brown wall, ripped open and pocked with yellowed visions of rooms and other interiors, gradually (and always occasionally) intersperced with multiply colored holes, revealing exteriors beyond the shifting facades of the "wall". The openings into and through the wall become larger, and then become smaller again (so small as to seem semblances of stars at times). Finally the enlargements take over the scene and eventually demolish all sense of "wall". This film is very inspired by the paintings of Gunther Forg, and with respect to St. John of the Cross, is a hand painted envisionment of holy depression.

In the film Acropolis (2001/2004), she puts forth a subversive, feminist view of the famous monument. She follows a procedure that is the reverse of observation, putting together existing Super 8 footage with porn and archival material, and by identifying the Parthenon with the female body, she negotiates anew our received notions about Greekness and femininity.

The broadcast journalist, in the middle of gunfires in the city, reports on the hostilities in Lamitan, Basilan, in the siege that happened in 2001.

This video is laden with energy very reminiscent of the late 80's. Hell, very few vids these days have much energy to them. They all seem to be about nailing the trick - which is important - but there's also this thing called cinematography. 2nd To None has a fast pace and awesome skating. The intro montage is stunning. Filmed in the warehouse, it features the team sessioning everything from the top of a forklift to jumping gaps from one product rack to another. They pile stuff high and go wild on every surface in the place - including a few ramps. Some street footy is edited in as well. This vid is so well done, it's insane. Each rider has a part, some of which is in the warehouse, but most is out on the streets. They mix in some skits and other random stuff. There's a "Chariots of Fire" routine in which they push - in super slow-mo - doing a variety of tricks while trying to sabotage each other's runs.
