The work explores the potential of chance, creating portraits of particular places by building formal, narrative and musical connections between images and sounds linked by the random discovery of the tape samples.

Breach (Girl & Eunuch)

Reminiscent of Warhol, Breach depicts a girl in ever-heightening grief, but with the sound of her tears removed. The person inflicting her agony is also unheard and unseen, but has a tangible presence in the film. As emotion is taken out of context, the viewer is almost placed in the position of the aggressor. The tangible melts into the intangible and the other way around.

On the soundtrack, Marcus tells a story while a single backlit photographic slide shows him lying on his back, the top of his head dominating the frame. The contrast between the still image and the momentum of the narrative emphasises the intimate exchange that takes place when a tale is shared. The scar on Marcus's head, Mc Queen says, 'is another story'.
