The pet magazine "Cat's Notebook", which boasts a circulation of 100,000, has become a video! In the first issue, we will introduce the cat show that decides the best cat in Japan.

Artist Renoir Auguste called his nude models beautiful fruits. The film, Beautiful fruit, is an experimental documentary film by a woman artist on her trip to Seoul, Paris and Berlin in search for portraits of young female artists. The film director tries to approach personal lives of the female artists by properly arranging theree different films of Super8, 16mm color and 16mm black/white. The camera records in an essay style tone their first meetings, pictures of the artists making their works, their exhibitions and finally their trip to the grave of Vincent van Gogh on the out skirt of Paris.

This short film was recorderd during a japanese experimental film screening at the 102. Shot in Fuji Single 8. According to the filmmaker, the real purpose of JAPANESE 102 was to film his friends and play with possible meeting chances between sound and image.

The game of Pétanque in Provence is both a structural and a composite element of social life. Structural because it obeys unchanging rules and rites, composite because it is practiced equally by all social classes. To get beyond a simple playful look, Sami Sarkis proposes to set up a dramatic climax, which is a pretext for a character study where what is truly at stake is no longer simply victory but above all the quest for respectability.

The film is a recitation of assonance and contradictions through stones that hold an overhanging secret.

Compilation of single video pieces, containing, among others: Intimacy (1-4), The Thing of Des., Chickenwalk - Head Talk, Has got/Hasn´t, Me Thing - You Dog. Objects are noticed, found, gathered up, taken along or given away as gifts. Objets trouvés. They are removed from their functional contexts and seem to speak for themselves. These objects remain concrete and are employed as the raw material for Sabine Marte’s films. Her camera is simultaneously a tool and an instrument and an amplifier. Or, in the words of Sabine Marte: “It was from the beginning on very difficult to articulate subjects that didn’t have any interest for those who are in power, nowadays we have found new means to give our ideas the necessary space. Thank you.”

An elderly Japanese man witnesses the subjects from the paintings of Dutch Baroque artist Johannes Vermeer (1632 - 1675) come to life. Following their real-life manifestation, the paintings formulate a mysterious romance story set in late-Meiji Japan in which a young woman’s relatives die under unusual circumstances concurrent with the arrival of a monk and a suspicious maid.

This is the story that a young man tells his friend while spending the night in a mountain refuge, as a horde of undead creatures rushes towards them, awakened by the incantations of the demon Egrezebel.

Last King Standing is a short film project that was assessed as part of the Rosny College Media Production Film And Television course in 1998.

Past associations are triggered in a reverie of trepidation and longing, as a woman, alone in a room, listens to another woman's voice on a tape recording. Reflecting back on itself, the film reinvokes its former fragments in a panic of sexual identity. (AFW program notes)
