The palms of Lana Turner's hands were full of scars; the technique she used in order to achieve melodrama was to tighten her fists, digging her fingernails into them until she began to cry. Day after day, soap opera actresses smear Vick's Vaporub into their eyes in order to cry. The effect of these false tears are the tears of the public. In Devil in the Flesh we see the camera's tricks, and even so the action seems dramatic. This piece once again exemplifies my fascination with the artificial: the fabricated emotions; the Christian looking for pain in order to live out Passion; the discomfort of the everyday melodrama; the emptiness that defeats everything

The Boy & A Great River

An educational film about the Kuzuryuu River in Japan. It starts out in the Meiji Era where the villages along it kept getting plagued by floods. The villagers prayed for it to stop but it did nothing. A young boy who lost his childhood friend to the floods grows up into a man and decides to take matters into his own hands. He starts constructing an embankment which leads to a village-wide project which spread to other villages along the river.

Fruit Machine

Mixing fact and fiction, this film tells the story of Dr. F.R. Wake and his bizarre creation, which became known as "the fruit machine." In the 1960s, Wake was hired by the Canadian government to devise a series of tests that would expose homosexuals working in the civil service. This modern retelling reveals that Wake may have had a few secrets of his own.

Similar to his previous work, Zòcalo, Pan is the result of synthetic cinematography - a photo animation of uncountable layers and over-lapping enriched additionally by gestural drawing. A bare winter wood marches passed, but this central motive is to be seen intact for only a short time before it is over-grown with polymorphous masks, arhythmic flashes of landscape particles. In between the more dense passages these are left isolated in empty, black space.

When Jack's ex-wife, Suzanna, arrives without his daughter, Jack is devastated. Creampuff is an exploration of the craving for and power of intimacy and the grace of love beyond affliction.

This is sort of a film poem it is the story of the week in the life of an eyeball. The viewer sees the eyeball darting around and also sees what the eyeball sees as well. The week has been condensed down to 9 min. This film was an experiment that worked. I shot all the eyeshots using my friend Letitia Tyler on 200ft of film and shot all the other shots on another 200ft. I then cut the negative together without ever seeing what the film looked like projected. I just wanted the editing process to be all part of the eye theme. I was hoping that it would all say something, and it does.

The film focuses on an analysis of the mechanisms of conditions and education `el càrcel del pueblo`, social housing in Madrid, architect Sànz de Oizà, the people call it `the prison of the people`. The film is oriented towards an analyses of the mechanisms of the conditionnement and of the education. The mechanisms of power manifest themselves in the architecture and in the hierarchic organisation of the institutions. This conditions the individuals and leads them to selfdiciplination.

Weighing... and Wanting

Drawing, literally, from the story of Daniel and Belshazzar, William Kentridge's film Weighing… and Wanting re-examines the legacy of Belshazzar's message in post-apartheid South Africa. While the political climate shared by Belshazzar's kingdom and apartheid-era South Africa is striking – in both, a ruling civilization relegates whole populations to subhuman status – Kentridge sets the scene of his film after the South African rule of oppression has been replaced by the ascent of the African National Congress. Left in the frame of apartheid's collapse is Kentridge's charcoal creation, Soho Eckstein, a former apartheid profiteer and businessman, contemplating the works of his own hand in the dissolution of love and in the building of industry.
