On September 10, 1898, Empress Elisabeth of Austria was tragically assassinated in Geneva. Since then, this illustrious empress has fascinated adults and children alike. A century later, we present to you a historical documentary on the exceptional destiny of this legendary empress. Her legendary beauty, her charm and her independence of mind, her thirst for travel and her passion for sports were as magical as they were dramatic, but the memory she left behind for eternity is that of a woman close to all. This film highlights the political role of Empress Elisabeth, neglected by historians, as well as her tastes and passions. The important stages of her life are also widely mentioned, such as her marriage to the young Emperor Franz Joseph, the disappearance of her cousin King Ludwig II of Bavaria and the tragedy of Mayerling.

The film I shot about La Tour is about that : an intimate emotion followed by the love for the works of La Tour. [...] Georges de La Tour's paintings (it remains 30) are fixed images gifted of a rare radiation and density in the history of human labour. “Al Makhtufun” won the 1998 Best Short Documentary Film Award at the Mediterranean Film Festival for highlighting the issue of abducted Lebanese. The film raises two major issues: The abductee’s physical absence and his spiritual presence among his family members, and the parents silently wishing his return. The documentary looks at documents kept by Wadad, a mother who decides to step outside her comfort zone and share her papers and forms when other parents would not.

Does colour exist where there is no light? The garden is a setting for colour research: random objects are laid out in changing combinations for repeated shooting and printing with varying exposure densities and colour balances. Images of Corinne standing and sleeping in a chair evoke traditional portraits in garden settings, but here the figure’s subjected to severe colour and contrast changes, and is partly obliterated by moving windblown foliage shadows in primary colours. There’s constant shifting between brief monochromes, duochromes and full colour, intercut with fragments of stark black and white negative from the original separations which contrast with the strong colours. In some of the sequences there’s a solidity of blackness, as in the background to a hibiscus flower, which seems to have a depth like thick velvet -in reality this blackness is the garden background with insufficient light to register on the high-contrast black and white negative.

Through a series of delicate formal manipulations, he folds representations of a coldly beautiful landscape into images of seething video static, water sluicing out of a tap, and a surveillance view from one office tower into another. Stephen Vitiello's score echoes the image track in describing a gradual arc of inhospitable elegance, rhythmic grace, and decay.

Based on a poem by Sandra Penna, which was inspired by a children's song about a couple who has broken up, this tape overturns the sunny idealism and rhymes typically found in children's songs. Contradictory feelings, imperfect remembrances and the inaccuracy of time are suggested by the poignant collage of home movies, voiceover, and music.

This documentary shows how music and musicians representing Afro-Maghrebian new tendancies, contributes to the blending and the fusion of Maghrebian and African cultures, as well as of the European and Western one. It tells about exile, about artist's feelings, about today Algeria. It shows how Maghrebian living in France express their musical culture, their roots, their traditions, mixing them up with the other cultures they meets.

"I came across a New York Times article about a group of hysterically blind Cambodian women in Long Beach, California, the largest group of such people known in the world. Hysterical blindness is sight loss brought about by traumatic stress with little or no physical cause." This tape delves into two histories: the history of hysteria and of the Cambodian civil war. It examines the ascendant quality of personalities that survive great trauma and loss and looks at how individuals normalize experiences and histories of "unassimilatable" pain.

Through the montage of film fragments from the Mexican Golden Cinema, it explores the cinematographic representation of of pain, violence, repressed sexuality and Mexicanness.
