Short documentary about political prisoners struggling to come to terms with haunting memories, produced for the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The film presents a reflection on the effects of prison in general and on the theatre director Ghassan Jbaii in particular. The artist used his work to come to terms with his haunting memories and regain the world outside the prison walls.

The film is not only a nod to Lettrist and Structuralite films in terms of its form and content; It was while thinking of the Flux Films series initiated by George Maciunas that the original idea for this film came to me. It had to be short, concise and in black and white. I had for some time had a fascination with the figures, the accounts and the texts used for the production of the credits made on ban-titles and which, after several generations take a slight overexposure. The film was set up with the references it actually generated.

The award-winning documentary Empty Mountain is about a village in the Daba Mountain area. The people who live there are very poor, but nonetheless very hopeful, and enjoy their living conditions in the mountains. Peng Hui and two film crew members interviewed and filmed in villages with no water, electricity, and minimal food resources; they worked and lived for more than six months, relying on rain, instant noodles and two tents. The result was Empty Mountain, a documentary which has already been accepted as a teaching and observational tool by Beijing Broadcasting Institute, Beijing Film Academy, Shanghai Fudan University, and Shanghai Theater Academy.

disobedience

disobedience is the visually lush journey of a mother on the lam. Warned by her three-year old son to "never go down to the end of the town", she nonetheless ventures far beyond the confines of home, heterosexuality, and the physical world. In punishment for her infatuation with an operatic Valkyrie, she is arrested, interned, stolen by pirates, and x-rayed by a book-eating bull-dyke. She loses her eye (and her way home), but in the end receives the gift of self.
