This is an attempt at bringing together a selection of the stories and paintings of the Warlis, and some of the writings about them. To the Warlis, a community of Adivasis (indigenous peoples), who live close to Bombay, these stories represent their history, their world-view. All the outsiders, the Portuguese, the Marathas, the British, the native settlers… they all tried obliterating this history and wisdom. The work of the outsiders who wrote about the Warli represents this process of creating new mythologies. By bringing together these disparate discourses, this video aspires to critique these mythologies… To read between the lines, as the stories themselves do.

Cinema offers a unique opportunity to synthesize a special multilayered space, whose dramaturgy cannot be limited to the traditional Hollywood-style concept of plot, but instead relies primarily on the interaction of several layers that give rise to the Image: music, visuals, text, and form.

I want to live with the things I love and cherish. My family and I live in Ayase, and I work at a bookstore in Ikebukuro. Sometimes I open a store at a flea market with a friend. We sell tableware, which she likes, and accessories made from buttons, which I make, and they are quite popular. With the money we saved there, my friend went on a long-awaited trip abroad. My goal is to start living alone. Today is my day off, so I go out to check out an apartment. I stopped by a park and saw cats having a meeting. When I saw the old building, I suddenly wanted to see my grandmother, so I took the train... The entire film is written in monologue and with a handheld 8mm camera, and features all the things "I" like: buttons, the dawn from my room, cats, the ocean, and my grandmother. There is no context, no meaning, no great sense of beauty, but they play a comfortable rhythm and a beautiful melody. This is a fictional essay whose natural gentleness reminds us of non-fiction.

Acclaimed Chinese TV documentarian Wang Haibing’s Home was an official selection at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival. The film records a story between humans and animals. The protagonists of the story are: a giant panda, who is about to be released into nature, and several ordinary workers at the rescue station to protect the giant panda. The relationship between man and nature depicted here is simple, harmonious and beautiful.

Elly thinks she can handle bringing April to work with her, but the library has never before seen such destruction. April is very different from the other Patterson kids: the characters look back at Elly’s pregnancy and the circumstances around April’s birth,during a freak winter storm in the early hours of April 1st. Now that the older kids don't need them as much, John and Elly realize that, even though April is a handful, she’ll still grow up way too fast.

THE SECRET STORY arose as a response to several beautifully decayed toy figures from the 1930s that were given to me as a gift. These figures, and other toys, objects, and illustrations that I found from the period between the world wars, suggested a kind of unearthed hidden narrative which I have attempted to re-piece together, as if these figures were the hieroglyphics of a just-forgotten tongue. THE SECRET STORY revolves around the central figure of the woman, and her girl-double, who look somewhat like a versions of Snow White. She wanders through landscapes of rivers and floods, home and war, and memory and illness, culminating in an ecstatic walk in the forest, suggesting both the dark and cathartic trajectories of the richest fairy tales.

Michel J consists of a series of portraits drawn from a video that was filmed during the religious service for the death of Michel Journiac in October 1995. It is the memory of this mass, the representation of a rite. A video work at first, it uses photography and ends up in painting, in pictorialness, through numerous references to the History of art and to ancient and modern painting.
