Combination of film, computer animation and video which meditatively questions the element of water as primeval philosophic beginning and the omnipresent life force. This work is an encyclopedic sample of different elements that have water as their topic. Sticking to the encyclopedic presentation, Oki ends with questions and terms in seven languages (Greek, Latin, English, German, French, Russian and Croatian) about Non-being (like the drowning man) or (the puzzling nature of) tangible objects.

Face Caught in the Dark

From old plates of an anonymous photographer who worked in the 50s, I extracted this impossible film (plates that had contributed to the composition of one of my little books with the title Sconosciuti [Persons Unknown] Frame by frame, plate by plate, with strips of reflected light and strips of tens of faces, I tried to bring them into a single cinematic stream, thinking about a solitary, single face emerging from the darkness.

常世の恋人

One knows how to love and how to hurt. Art students Naoya and Kono. They are different types but like each other. They ask Reiko, an art model who comes to their drawing class, to be their model for an extra-curricular production. The two are simultaneously attracted to her shadowy side, but while Kono falls straight for Reiko, Naoya worries that he is unable to portray her true self, and begins to search for a veil over Reiko's true face. Kono receives pocket money from his companion's lover through mother-son-like conversations. Naoya visits Reiko's house and takes off his coat in front of the front door. The accumulation of small details creates quiet pauses that not only highlight the outlines of the characters, but also give the film an elegance and tranquillity that is probably a quality of the director.

Reiter recently collaborated with animator Katie Bush to finish the film after two decades.
