Originally screened as part of the BBC/Arts Council’s ‘Dance for the Camera’ series, Katrina McPherson’s dance film intimately tracks the frenetic movements of a solo dancer (choreographer/filmmaker Marisa Zanotti). Closely captured with hand-held cameras, the dancer’s disorienting spins are accompanied with a fittingly jittery electronic score by Philip Jeck.

Since the age of 17/18, I've been haunted by the catastrophe of Pompeii – beginning with photographs (sold as pornography in high school) of the mummified lovers caught in coitus and preserved by the volcanic ash, revivified by many ghostly photographic books, but especially illuminated by Donald Sutherland's accounts and images from first hand experience of the ruins. Finally my homage in three parts: "The Flowers of Pompeii," "Ashen Snow," and "Angelus." (Note: the first section is actually entitled "The Sexual Partners of Pompeii.")

An elderly patient claims to have had a dream about death. The doctor does everything possible to ease his death, and suddenly the phone rings - his wife reports from the stock exchange that the shares in which all the money was invested have fallen sharply, and they urgently need to be sold. Travel into the world of the Alaskan Bush Pilot, a world of challenge and danger, not to mention some of the most awe-inspiring sights in the world. There are few runways here, so pilots take off and land on any semi flat surface they can find amid the towering mountain passes, rugged glaciers, gravel bars, mudflats, farms, lakes, streams, beaches or in small clearings hacked out of the wilderness. The weather can change from clear and sunny to white out conditions in minutes, and pilots have to be aware of icing conditions and downdrafts from the sides of mountains. The favored airplanes were designed and built over fifty years ago - still covered with fabric and equipped with balloon tires, skis, or floats. The skill and knowledge required to fly in Alaska's bush country comes only after many hours in the air., flying in all kinds of conditions. Yet, the number of mishaps every year proves that flying in Alaska is a dangerous challenge, even to experienced pilots!
