Experiment 002

In 1994 HUANG Hua-cheng showed his 8mm film Experiment 002 during a seminar titled ‘Theater Quarterly and Me’ at the Chinese Taipei Film Archive. This film is a recording of the seminar, documenting how the film was played and the seminar proceedings. HUANG passed away in 1996, and his earlier films have been lost.

Pram Factory

In the early 1970s, a theatre collective - the Australian Performing Group - based itself in a building called the Pram Factory, now synonymous with the people and events that laid the groundwork for a renaissance in Australian culture. The Pram was a ‘scene’, a 24-hour happening, a radical alternative to the mainstream. Those who lived and worked at the Pram expected the world to come to them - and for a while it did. (The building was eventually demolished to make way for a supermarket.)

Documentary produced by TV Cultura addresses the archeological site of São Raimundo Nonato, a municipality in the south of Piauí, where traces of men who lived here at least 50 thousand years ago were found. The video brings images of the excavations and focuses on the researchers' daily work. Niede Guidon talks about the beginning of his work, the difficulties he faced to develop his research and the situation of the site today. In addition to the excavations of the archaeological site, the documentary shows the valley and the caves that exist in Piauí, where they also found traces of the fauna and flora that existed in the place.

Jaime Roos at 10

At ten o'clock on the night of 20 November 1993, in the Barrio Sur neighbourhood of Montevideo, Jaime Roos began the first of 42 concerts on a tour that lasted three months and included performances in all 19 departments of the country. In total some 300,000 saw him play. This documentary captures the essence of that unique tour and it is a crucial contribution to our understanding of Jaime Roos and his position in Uruguayan music towards the end of the 20th century.

Goddess of 8mm film

A self-produced feature film. The main character, an 8mm filmmaker, has a bronze statue of the goddess of 8mm movies in his home, and he always prays before filming, and when editing, he places it above the viewer to be watched over by the goddess. He is a devout believer who goes about his work. One day, the goddess appears in his dream, complains to him about the plight of 8mm film, and orders him to independently produce 8mm film.

Bui Doi: Life Like Dust

A young adult Vietnamese immigrant, currently serving time in prison for armed robbery, recounts his evolution from a 13 year old immigrant to a life of crime. He relates his immigration from a Vietnamese refugee camp to California, his entry into American schools, his subsequent involvement with Asia American gangs followed by criminal activity and prison.

Little Lieutenant

Little Lieutenant is a look back at the late Weimar era with its struggles and celebrations leading up to world war, a period piece. Scored to John Zorn's arrangement of the Kurt Weill song, "Little Lieutenant of the Loving God", and drawing its imagery both from the original song and its somewhat idiosyncratic rearrangement, the film presents an internal reading of Silvers' solo scored to the same musical piece, "Along the Skid Mark of Recorded History".
