All around the world schools for the deaf are closing, depriving deaf children of the benefits of having a sign language comunity. One school in Mexico City remains steadfast in giving the deaf comuniy a space to learn and comunicate in sign language, and shows extrordinary results in it´s aproach.

Agatha visits the train station to meet her husband returning from the front, but the only person she finds there is an injured soldier with no one to greet him. He has just two hours before his return train and a goal he cannot achieve without the help of a random stranger.

Wandering through empty highways, dim apartments, and drifting memories, Dean is a solitary young man unraveling in silence. After abruptly leaving his former life behind, he arrives in a nameless town, where each interaction peels back a layer of his detachment.

A series of sunsets filmed over the course of a year are traversed by rays of light that permeate the Super 8 film through a structure of intentional light leaks. These create overexposed images that, in turn, intermingle with virtual sunsets and landscapes, creating a continuous flicker between natural and artificial light. The film is based on the idea of “light machines,” understood as devices capable of controlling and transforming light. Several of these machines are used in this film: the camera itself, filters, 3D lighting, flashlights, and crystals, which serve to materialize a constant contrast between structural control and the unpredictability of capturing flashes of light.

A vacated, cluttered bedroom fills slowly with water. The bed is already under water and, due to the motion of the waves, seems to breathe gently. A strange kind of calm exists, as if it is all a dream. Minne Kersten (1993) filmed her video work in a replica bedroom at an institute that researches water as part of flood preparedness. The flooded room elicits visions of disasters and water's destructive power. It is a distressing image in light of current climate developments, especially in a city such as Amsterdam, which lies below sea level. Kersten is fascinated by the feelings of serenity and calm that can arise in the midst of a crisis. In moments of actual need and loss, a person may experience a heightened sense of clarity. They may take a step back and observe as time passes by. This can allow space to think about the end as a transitional state, rather than something definitive. Transcend the future!

Liyah, a single mother, caught between the responsibilities of caring for her Alzheimer’s-stricken mother and raising her 12-year-old daughter, discovers that an enchanted cello can briefly restore her mother’s memories, but at the cost of her daughter’s hearing. Although the music temporarily brings warmth and clarity to her mother, Liyah clings onto the false hope, building tension between her and her daughter, forcing her to choose between the two.
