Memoirs of the Blind

Memoirs of the Blind

1991 • 52 min • France
In 1990, the Louvre invited the French philosopher Jacques Derrida to create a visual and philosophical product based on the materials of the museum's exposition. The philosopher chose the image of a blind man in painting. In the film, Jacques Derrida reflects on the drawings of the Louvre's "Parti-pri" exposition. The director captures the emerging thought and, with the help of various representative means, allows us to see the rapprochement that Jacques Derrida establishes between the gesture of the artist and the gestures of the blind man.

Here are all the prejudices and all the humiliation, hatred and anger, indifference and wild dreams. Caregiver and cared for but where the words have lost their meaning. The Secret Purple

The Secret Purple

Fumie returns to her room where she lives alone as if she is escaping from someone. She immediately takes off the underwear she was wearing and washes it. You stink. She sniffs her washed panties, curious about what the stranger has just said to her. At the cinema where she works part-time, a colleague, a projectionist, stalks her, and Fumie's heart slowly begins to race. The film is a more eloquent and naked account of women's lives and their true feelings about menstruation. The film is a raw but lyrical portrayal of body odour, vomiting and other things that everyone tries to hide, as well as the fragile friendship between women, which leaves a strange aftertaste after watching.
Gritty

Gritty

“GRITTY was rephotographed off both slides and cine footage made in 1983. The location is a popular beach where people are active enjoying the sunshine. However, I wanted to explore the notion of the Gaze and to bring out the darker aspects that resort, specially hints of voyeurism. I do this through exaggeratedly slow camera movements upon the still images and long unnaturally extended pans with moving images of children running and fishing in sunset reflecting pools.”
