The Feast of the Gods

The Feast of the Gods

1990 • 27 min • Italy, United States of America
When restoration experts at Washington's National Gallery of Art began cleaning up their Renaissance masterpiece The Feast of the Gods, they discovered their "Bellini" is not what it appears to be -- that significant portions were altered and repainted sometime shortly after the master's death. Who would have dared tamper with the great man's work? And why? Experts set about solving the Bellini whodunit through use of X-rays, paint analysis, computer simulations, and other forms of latter-day techno-snoopery.

Roma is a poetic documentary about Rome, created during a trip to Italy in November 1987. Sequences showing the Pantheon, rustling leaves, a tiger-striped cat on a car, the pigeons at Santa Maria Maggiore, and the Tiber against the light are presented with precise, rhythmic displacements. Painterly shadows and graphic nuances are played out on the screen. (Filmform)

Neon Diver

Neon Diver

1990 • 18 min
The pool is a metaphor for identity, pleasure and voyeurism. Swimmers walk around the edge of the pool, define the frame and diving one-by-one, self possessed and in control of their bodies. As they cross and re-cross the water, they convey purposeful action and hedonism. They parody the frolics of Esther Williams and the synchronised swimmers who flicker on the surface of the water, somersaulting and forming rosettes. They expose playfulness as a vehicle for submerged voyeurism. These scenes are ritualistically punctuated by images of a diver and a punk violinist. They repeatedly challenge our perceptions beneath and above the illusory surface to proclaim an identity free from constraints.

Rally Australia 1990

1990 • 50 min
Round 9 of the world rally series took place in Australia. The entry list for drivers read like a 'Who's Who' in the rally world and included Carlos Sainz (Toyota Celica GT-Four), Alex Fiori (Lancia Delta Integrale 16v), Mikael Ericsson (Toyota Celica GT-Four), Didier Auriol (Lancia Delta Integrale 16v), Kiyoshi Inoue (Mitsubishi Galant VR-4), "Possum" Bourn (Subaru Legacy 4WD Turbo) and Juha Kankkunen (Lancia Delta Integrale 16v). The stages were varied and presented a unique challenge which led to near desperate measures, including some inspired tyre-cutting by Michelin and Pirelli. Certainly one of the best rounds in the series and this excellent video is a worthy buy.
Safari Rally 1990

Safari Rally 1990

1990 • 54 min
Round 3 of the 1990 World series - the Marlboro Safari Rally took place in Kenya, East Africa. It was the wettest and muddiest since 1977. Good news perhaps for the 4 wheel-drive armada of Subaru Legacies, piloted by rally aces Markku Alen, 'Possum' Bourne, Mike Kirkland and Jim Heather-Hayes. Carlos Sainz, Mikael Ericsson and Bjorn Waldegaard were in the Toyota Celica GT-4s and Martini Lancia had Miki Biasion, Alex Fiorio and Flying Finn Juha Kankkunen on board. The World's press arrived in force to watch what they expected would be Lancia's great Safari hat trick. What they actually saw is brilliantly recorded in this thrilling video - which you will want to watch over and over again.
